Okay. I have been a CX2 pilot since July. Now, I ran into a bit of cash and decided to take the plunge and upgrade to a TREX. Here is some picture goodness.
Oh, btw... can someone point me in the direction of how to get mt CX2's working with my DX7? Please??!?!?!?!?:o

Enjoy your T-Rex. Watch the Finless videos. Make sure that you threadlock everything that needs threadlock. Congratulations!

im pretty sure all you need to do is bind the cx2 rx to the dx7. the same way you would the ar7000..
btw on your first flight. only make it about 30 seconds. cuz your going to need to rub one out after seeing how stable and nice it flies...

make sure you use training gear so you don't have any problems on your first flight, which of course you want to be a good one. As everyone else said, make sure you threadlock everything, and have fun!

i dont think trainign gear is really a need to have, sure its a good thing to have. but if you dont have it. no problem, aslong as you setup the head and gyro the heli should act just fine upon lift off.
for the first flight slow ease into gettin gher lite on her skids to check for the gyro to be reversed..
the biggest thing for you tho is the fact that your going from a counter rotating heli to a full control 3d heli...i dont know if you have a sim but id just finding ways to put a few hours on one before you attempt to fly..oh and stock up on parts..

Here is a link to set up your DX7. It is a little more than just binding, but it is not hard at all.

Thanks for all of the replies! I did also invest in a RealFlight 3.5 simulator setup, though I have yet to be able to figure out how to fly it with my DX7!

I am going to give it a shot - soon. But for now, I will stick to the included radio.

when i tryed it i got the controls to work, but i couldnt get the collective to give any type of throttle. i mapped the channels out and everything. the collective changed the pitch corectly just no power to the motor.
i put 3 hours a night on the sim no matter how late it got for 2 weeks. i went barely being able to hover to doing some mild 3d. just remember in real life you got the pucker factor and you will also know that there is a 5 to 8 hunred dollers of yours in the air. the way i see it, just cuase you can do it on the sim doesnt mean you can do it in reallife. the sim just gives you an idea of whats going to happen..
ex.. i can do tic tocs all day long on the sim, nose up, nose down, do half piro's during the tic toc's. i got cocky within the first week i was flying my rex, and tryed a tic toc. man it was nasty i got about 3 pumps out of it, and realized i had bogged the head down so bad she just kinda ticed her way into the ground, tail first..

I my opinion it is worth using the DX7. Then when you go fly the real think the sticks feel the same. Plus I hate the detents on the throttle of the USB radio.

funny thing, when i had rf3.5.. i pulled the metal tab off to make the throttle smooth. then i tryed it on my trex and dx6.. i couldnt stand it. im debating pulling the thing out of my dx6 that has the notches cut in it, and find the exact center on the stick. then file all of it smooth but a small area at center stick. so i have some sort of indication that im going into - pitch

Interesting idea. I was thinking about something like that. When you start doing a lot of 3D, I wonder if that would be helpfull to have the midstick feedback. So you would know you are at zero pitch with out having to look at it. Or after you have flown long enough, do you just "feel" midstick automatically?
Not that I have to worry about that for a while, I am still trying to master normal flight.

Use the Interlink for the sim. You won't wear out the pots and gimbals on the real radio if you do..

one thing about the dx6 ive noticed that i really do not like, is that there is nothing telling you when your at center stick. no marks or nothing. im not the best at lining something up in the center by eye balling it. id like some kind of mark letting me know, hey this is the true center for this radio. it screwed me 2 times on setting up my head...

Within 5 minutes of starting up Real Flight 3.5, I popped open the back and turned that metal tab around. The detents drive me batty as they affect your ability to smoothly move the collective.
As for my regular radio, I purchased the "micro heli" version of the DX7 that came with DS285s. Out of the box, there were no detents. They give you the option of adding them later on -- it came with a small zip lock bag containing an allen wrench and the metal detent thingy.

well i run mine fairly smooth, but i can still feel the bumps. ive got to pull that part out and find center stick on it. i was just out flying and having a smooth collective stick, with some sort of notch or something to let me know when im at center stick is what i really need.

I got both of my CX2's bound to the DX7 last night! Now both of my stock controllers are going in a box under the stairs (we call it the "closet of death").
Still using the Interlink to fly, BTW.
