View Full Version : CC BEC with AR9000 problem

I recently purchased the new CC BEC. Yesterday when hooking it up to my AR9000 I had some really strange problems. It would start up fine, but then once I started moving the sticks, it would go crazy and start continually jerking the servos around and resetting my reciever over and over. I tried turning up the voltage on the BEC to make sure it wasn't going into low voltage under load, but I still had the same problem at 6 volts. I talked to Castle this morning and its a problem with the signal wire (orange wire) coming from the BEC. If you don't plan on using the CC link to change voltage, you can just disconnect this wire and it should work fine or If you want to use the Castle link in the future, you can just attach a short servo extension and remove the signal wire from the servo extension.

I'm not sure if this effects the other Spectrum RXs. Castle said it has something to do with the binding process and the BEC is confusing the RX so I assume this will be a problem with the AR7000 as well although I didn't try it.

Edit: You can also just remove the signal wire from the servo plug. Use a small flat screwdriver to pull up the finger holding the signal wire in the servo plug. This should allow you to remove the signal lead from the servo plug. If you ever need to use the castle link to change voltage you can simply re-insert the lead into the servo plug before plugging it into the Castle link.

2nd edit: I changed the name of the thread since my problem is not "solved"

Hmmm.... well, sorry everyone  It looks like my issue isn't resolved yet :arggg:

I disconnected the signal wire but I still had the same problems. I tried the BEC on my Trex and it seemed to work fine :dontknow I talked to Castle again this morning and they gave me a few more things to try to determine what the problem is. First I'll disconnect all servos to make sure its not a bad servo causing the freak out although I doubt it since the heli flew great with a different battery setup. I even tried a cheap BEC I bought from Helidirect and it seemed to work fine with my 9000 without the odd servo behavior and reciever resets. I'll also try the CC BEC in one of my Raptors with a PCM setup to see if I get any odd behavior.

I have had the same issue with the yellow lead in a Spektrum reciever. Perhaps CC should put a diode on that line to keep it from going into bind mode. With the lead removed the receiver seems to work fine. But am not flying with it until I hear more.

Anyone else using the CC BEC with Spektrum?

Which servos are you using? I can't get mine to work with my setup. I tried a lot of configurations last night trying to find the problem. If I plug in the throttle servo (HS5975) and my gyro (611/9256) it works fine. If I plug in one of my 8717s with these servos it works fine. Once I plug in a 2nd 8717 the problem starts. Cycling the sticks causes the RX to jitter and reset. Its usually about 5-10 secs before I regain control of the heli. I unplugged all servos except 2 of the 8717s but I still get the reset problems. I tried the BEC in my Raptors and my Sceadu and it seemed to work fine although they are on PCM recievers running smaller servos (9252s on the 50 and 811s on the 30) and none of them are ccpm helis like the one I am having problems with. I think the 3 high powered servos moving at once is causing my problem. When I cycle the sticks I can see my glitch counter dropping to around 4 volts before resetting. I talked to Castle today and they are looking into the problem. The tech support has been great so far and the guy I am talking to is being very helpful.

I really wanted to try this BEC in my Stratus. The adjustable voltage would be great for playing with these new servos... but with these problems I will be looking for a new BEC.

8717 on cyclic and 8900G on tail. Been using the 6 amp Align regulator with this setup for several months.

So removing the signal wire worked for your RX? Is yours a 9000 or 7000 rx? Have you tried pumping the pitch up and down to see if it causes the RX to reset? Mine seems like it works ok until I start moving the servos around, especially quick movements. Is yours a CCPM heli or mechanical mixing?

I have tried the JR921, and Skektrum 6200 and 7000. First try had jumping around with yellow wire in. Second try went into bind mode. Third try without yellow wire seems ok.

Any update on this issue with Castle BEC? My friend has the exact same problem with his AR7000 + 8717 servos. Once he plugs in more than 1 servo, the power goes down/nuts.

Mine works fine but I am not using 8717 servos.

thanks,
bob

CC has fixed this problem. All built after 11/01 should be fine. You can contact them and they will fix older ones.

BUT, some people have had various other problems with them. Mine and several others have been DOA. A couple of reports of them failing and putting out high voltage, frying some servos. And some reports of serious voltage sag under load.

Not sure, but I am playing with my replacement of the DOA a bit before sticking it into a heli.
