Could anyone comment on whether the DX7 or X9303 is different between the US and UK version?

The non 2.4GHz i can understand as you use 72Mhz over the pond where as were 35Mhz.

Just asking as the exchange rate is very tempting.

Thanks

I beleive the US ones have a higher power output. UK is limited to 100W, France 50W etc

Be careful, if the US version doesn't meet your (FCC type) regulations there could be stiff fines if you get caught using it...

I think it is not possible to catch someone who is using a US Version in Europe!
My US Version has a CE sign on.

Only differrence is the power output. UK limited to 100mhz US Over 100mhz. Horizon UK will demod your US spec unit to conform.
Read their site they think some units from US slipped in with CE stickers. If you have a US unit how can authorities tell its not one of these units if Horizon can't tell.
Chances are that limit will be upped anyway.

UK limited to 100mhz US Over 100mhz.

I think that it is milliwatts (mW) rather than millihertz (mHz) or watts (W).

The 2712E version (mark the "E") has a lower output, due to different legislation. It is still however a full range system. There has been a lot of discussions in Sweden regarding this. There's an actual field test done by Procar Sweden.
The "E"-version DX7 has an maximum range of 950 meters.
The US version DX7 has a range of 1600+ meters.
The JR PCM9xII has a range of 1200 meters.

Sorry got my Mh's & Mw's mixed. pasted this from previous post from this site on same subject and confirms what Horizon UK told me. Again Horizon can de mod a US unit to comply (if you want) via a software upgrade for a small cost.

I think that would be a software "downgrade" actually :)

Is the DX7 mode-switcheable or do you need to specify which one when you buy?
If the latter, has anyone had experience in buying a US DX7 to use in Mode 1 in Europe?

Please go lightly - newbie here!

Mode is not switchable easily so you have to order correct mode. There are threads to say a MOD can be carried out to switch modes but all in all if buying new get it right first time. For EU its a SPM 2712E you want but you can get a US version and Horizon will de-tune for you at a small price.

Thx flyingeng, that's what I thought. But is it possible to get a US radio directly in Mode 1? IOTW, is Mode 1 sold/used at all in the US? I'm liking the US price (and perhaps the range given hight output), but relearning to fly in another Mode would be veeeery expensive in rebuilds:o
