For me that's not really a concern, was one of the details that got me interested in this heli.
Once you drive the pinion and the tension is in the drivesystem during a flight, the One-way is locked in position, generating 0% heat, when you cut the motor it's completely free to spin and you have a nice driven tail in a Autorotation.
The pinion is also separated from the motor by a pretty solid motor/pinion adapter.
I personally find it very unlikely that belt friction will heat it up that bad...
I read Corrado made many testflights without a problem, and even arobatic autorotations are possible ( when you master them ofcourse :D ).
The advantage is again weight, simple and direct, less gears with bearings, bushing etc.
I hope there are no flaws at all, only time will tell ofcourse, but i'm pretty confident it's a very nice RC helicopter.

The other advantages include:
- much quieter, all reports are that all you can hear is the blades
- less damage = no stripped gears or broken belts in many months of test flights.

I wonder if the motor bearings last longer too?

This I got to see. Won't be long to find out though.:)

I just checked it. It will not fit as-is. You have to cut one inch off the bottom to for to fit.

Not sure why you would want to (ok, other than the looks and to save weight perhaps) as the Protos canopy is proving rather fragile :(

I don't think the Protos is fragile at all. I have had mine on and off over 30 times already with no sign of ware (other then the grommets are getting easier to get on the body posts). I would much rather have the canopy made out of the material that it is then say fiberglass that is much heavier, less flexible and just as, if not more fragile.

No not FG as you say, but PET or Lexan like the RC car bodies and some of the other new helis. Super tough, essentially untearable, flexible, very strong and light.

I have to diagree here, mind tore very easy at two different spots and I haven't even flown with it yet.

So now there's no hope of it staying on for an entire flight, I guess.:YeaBaby:

have they been able to make a one piece lexan canopy? the two piece canopies are so cheep looking.
the Protos canopies that I have are pretty durable, I wounder if MSH had a bunch of thin ones go out. I tried to tear the one I have...I deformed it a little but couldn't tear it.

JdanksI agree, I don't like two-part canopies either. As one possible good example, as far as I can tell the Phazor 600 polycarbonate canopy is one piece: http://www.gohbee.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=40600&Category_Code=1275
So it can be done.

So, how do you guys like the Protos, after been flying/crashing it for a while?

I only have 7 flights on it, but so far I'm loving how this thing flies. I'm sure I would say the same about a trex 500, but I'm really happy I don't need to weight it down as much with batteries. It's got an incredibly light smooth yet responsive feel to it.

So, how do you guys like the Protos, after been flying/crashing it for a while?I have 60 flights on mine and two crashes. On crash cost me £75 ($150) but th eother was just a mainshaft and some repaired plastic.
I love it and I do think it is fast/powerful. I am only running about 11/11 but about 8 on cyclic with 1/2 weights in the paddles. This works well for me since it is stable enough but rolls/flips fast enough for me too. I fly at just over 2500hs and get 5 minutes on a 2100 6s pack.
Take care,
J

goddd damnnn
i saw this tthing fly today and its realll impressive.
we didnt know they kit included the 15tooth pinion for 6s, and we were flying 5s intended for the 18tooth pinion which wasnt included. power was lacking and we were stumped. we threw in a 6s and holeyyyy shitttttt, this things got more power/snap/agility than anything ive seen or flown.
everyone check your pinions included. we assumed it included the 5s pinion, but it had the 6s one included instead.
