Got this link in an email. Pretty cool video. I know Jody Greer was working on a variable pitch prop back in January. But it is neat to see a plane flying nose down and hovering back up.

Zak and I spoke to Jody back in Jan about his experiments with this concept and his results - he has a plane that he was designing and testing with this type of prop. The video is very cool - looks like the next style of flying may be here - 4D!! I like how it hovers nose down and then climbs (while flying backwards!). Very radical manuevers!

Speechless  ............. Fantastic! Now let me remember, why did I want to learn to fly helis -oh yes! they can fly backward, and hover, and fly in small spaces while being very agile.......hmmmmm....... so how many of those crazy planes could I have bought instead?
Oh what the hell - I like crashing hard to fly expensive things :arggg:

I saw a variable pitch sysyen through HH website, looks to be available soon. I believe it was by a German company Mamo Model's.

With the light wing-loading of the foam profiles hoverings become stable, wondering what kind of balance would be need for an inverted hover. tailrotor LoL. :WOW

Always like to watch vids of new cutting edge 3-4D, nice video David. I could se my Tensor or get a Yak & try it.

I have seen a variable pitch system on the shelves at the LHS, I thought it was from Ikarus.

I have the variable pitch prop system from e-flite. Its called the show stopper. I use it on my e-flite extra 260 foamy profile and its awsome.

Just a thought. Wouldn't it be easier (and lighter) to just reverse the DC motor rather than the mechanics of pitch adjustment?

There are several out there now. Ikars, Hacker, Axi, etc make them.

The problem with reversing the motor is you have to make it stop, then spin up in the other direction. Much quicker to reverse pitchat full RPM.

Think about trying to fly inverted with a heli by reversing the motor in flight. :)

How about a second motor pointing backwards to provide reverse thrust and then just switch off the front tractor motor when you want ot be pulled back.
Or, quickly nip over to the model in flight and change the leads over before it gets to the ground.
Yeah, ok, I give in, variable pitch is best....................

I have an Ikarus Shock Flyer with a variable pitch prop system. It's neat.

You set if up just like a heli, but using a single servo swash.. The Pitch channel (Aux 1) goes to the varible pitch prop, the Thr goes to the ESC to control the power.

Some people are running the ESC in gov mode and just controlling the pitch. Use a switch to go from off to on on the motor.
