Hi guys,

I am having a slight dilemma with my MT in that I cannot get it to hover without a lot of stick input, and then I crash.

I have a sim and can keep a heli in the air for quite a while, although it does not hover still, continual stick input and it flys over a large distance, but I can fly it non the less. I have a Bell twister Medivac and can fly that all over the place and can get it hovering on a dime.

I have all stock parts on my MT and I am asking; should a heli be able to hover reasonable still (in one spot) as I see on the videos, without a lot of stick input, or is it just a fact that these guys are great flyers and you dont notice how much input they provide to get their helis to hover?

I am still in training and whilst I dont mind flying and crashing, I would rather fly..LOL

Any help is appreciated.
Cheers.

that sounds like a set up problem...is the swash plate level? are all controls working properly and moving freely?do you have any expo on ch1 and2 that can help smooth things out a LOT

I am also a beginner in heli. I am hovering relatively well on my stock MT and it is holding hover quite well and no need for huge stick input, Big stick input will give you the pendelum effect, heli setting perhaps ?

What does your throttle curve look like. It should look like 0-40-60-75-100 or similar

I know the links are fairly tight on the balls in a new kit, and this will cause the servos to struggle to center properly and move smoothly. There is a ball link sizing tool out there to help them fit properly.
When I first started flying my MT it was in the basement and the ground effect (turbulence) made it very difficult to hold it steady. Went outside and got it in a 4 foot hover and it hovered very steady with only slight stick inputs.

I'm rather new to the heli scene, but why do people use those throttle curves?

I use in normal mode throttle 75% all flat. in idle-1,2 I go 95%.
The only curves I use are pitch curves.

Using this throttle mode enabled me to fly the longest with my mini titan.
7 minutes using a 2500mah 3Cell Flightpower Lite pack.

I also believe that its the most stable way of hoovering and its less strain on the battery and motor.

I use a Jazz ESC (with gov enabled)

Another question, what is the maximum heat the engine and battery should have after a flight.
Currently my battery is about 50 degrees centigrade, the motor is about the same 50-60

60c max for your lipo's & 85c max for the motor. If it's still skittish then dial in some expo on the elevator and aileron, around 25% should calm things down a bit.

Letting the motor idle slowly for 20 to 30 secs at the end of your flight will stop the motor's temp from shooting up after stopping.
