I bought one a couple weeks ago. I tore it apart the first night I had it to solder wires to the shutter trigger. Not nearly as easy a task as the A640 was but still doable. I've used it on 3 shoots so far and I like it. The IS is awesome. You can really see the difference in the monitor as you are flying. Much more stable of an image than the 640. Very similar to my Panasonic video cameras OIS.

I also purchased the Canon wide angle lens for this camera which is huge and heavy.

here's some shots as I was tearing it apart and some of the camera with wide lens next to my Nikon D40X

DJ V, I have an aftermarket wide angle (.45x) for my A640. I have to zoom in a little ways to get the barrel adapter out of the picture. Is this true with your setup on the A650 or did the retailer package up a mismatch just to get the sale?

the fact that you mention it is a .45x tells me it is likely a cheap Chinese lens. There are no quality .45x lenses for this camera that I am aware of.

Raynox makes a couple nice lenses and of course the Canon lens is awesome. But they are between .66x and .75x

.45x lens if not designed properly for this specific camera can certainly exhibit vignetting from the lens barrel.

DJ, Vignetting is an understatement.
At full wide there is a round hole for a picture surrounded by black. This neccessitates zooming and thus losing some of the view.
Lens is by Digital Concepts. Prob. Chinese. They do make lots of extras including batteries /chargers etc.

sounds like what you may have is a circular fisheye lens and not a rectilinear.

Do yourself a favor and get a quality wide angle lens for this camera. You won't regret it.

DJ, I have the Raynox HD .66X and it is soft around the edges. Are the others, especially the Cannon, soft as well as a trait for these type lens? Which one is the cleaner shot lens?

it depends on which Raynox .66x you have.

there is a cheapy one and a much better one. If yours has 3966-123-RAY on the side then it is the lesser of the two.

Mine has 3967-101-RAY. It also is the HD model...
