flightpower 4s/v balancer problems???

I just got two 4s 2500mah flightpower packs . and the balancer goes into red lamp fault mode then turns off making charging impossible as it then becomes an open circuit.
my 3s packs work fine and i have 2 balancers and 2 chargers, each giving the same result when i check the 4s.
even at my local hobby shop they could not get their 4s packs to work on their balancers.The big question is why does a 4s pack have 1 black wire and 5 red wires ? you would think it would have only 4 red wires as a 3s pack only has 3 red ones.
is their something that needs to be altered on the balance wires to make this work.? its so strange that 3 separate 4s packs on 3 separate vbalancers and chargers all behave the same. or does flightpowers v balance just not work on 4s packs.

for a 4S the balancer lead should have 4 red and 1 black, maybe you could try removing one of the red lead and replacing it with the black lead. That should work.

Try looking at the wire that is provided with the balancer,. I have taken a look and mine and I found leads for all 3s(x2) ,4s and 5s in the package.
