Hi there!
I'm looking for a Hurricane kit but I noticed there are several version of the heli at Flying-hobby. There is a kit with carbon frame and plastic head, a kit with stock frame but metal head, and a kit with carbon frame with metal head.
The Pro kit has the carbon frame:
http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=3_30_36&products_id=1780
400 USD but without motor/ESC
The SE kit with stock frame but metal head:
http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=3_30_36&products_id=1956
420 USD and with motor/ESC
The Pro SE with metal head and carbon frame:
http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=3_30_36&products_id=1954
600 USD with motor/ESC and carbon blades
If I buy the Pro SE I'll have less money for lipo's, so its al about the extra pro's that a metal head or carbon frame has.. The stock head has no slop i've heard and the parts for a crash are cheap. How does the metal head looks after a good crash? And is the carbon frame so mutch better? The stock frame looks pretty light and strong in my opinion.
So what would you do with a limited budget? I'll only do light 3D, hard 3D is not my thing (however I did tictocs with my t-rex450).
Ps. i'm working on my english.
Best regards,
Oscar.

something to think about..
I believe the only upgrades this heli "Needs" are the metal blade grips $60 and head block $12. and carbon Blades $60
the rest is just Bling!
now as for the kits. the carbon frame is pretty cool but before anything you need to decide on your power plant.... which motor do you want? if you do not want the 1100kv gaui motor then the pro is out! I believe their are better motors out now like the Z power, I am very happy with the new H/18/11 but if I were doing it again I would get the Z20 980kv.
if you buy the basic plastic kit from ready heli for $250 add metal grips and head block, rcp blades your up to $375, now add a used align 75 esc for $50 and a Zpower motor for $90= $515 and your ready to rock just pick your bec
but acctually the the std plastic kit with motor and 50 amp esc and Bec is a better deal at $319 if you don't want a ballistic power plant! add carbon blades, metal grips and head block now @$451 with this combo you can upgrade later to the Zpower z20 for $90 or the H18/11 for $69 and still use your stock 50 amp esc, but you can not use the Z30 or Gaui 1100kv motor with the 50 amp esc.

Good reply concept1 !!
If you want to skip the carbon blades... you can save another $53.00.
Since I am not yet comfortable that I am not going to wreck it for awhile... I am going to run the woodies.
Also - based on the 450se I have been flying - one thing I like about the full metal head is that when I do crash... the only thing I am replacing is the main shaft, feathering shaft, and the flybar. I have never had to worry about any other head pieces... they are always fine.
I JUST got my hurricane XES... and I still need to get it flying... so I do not have real world experiance with advise, on crashing it yet ;-)

Also metal elevator arm is a must have. Several people have had the stock on break and lose elevator control.
The frame stiffener, upgraded motor mount (if not in the kit) are also both good things.
All that said, I am going with the full CNC head and CF frame. :)

Hi,
I was told that there are new re-enforced plastic elevator arms. (2 months ago already)
I ordered from infinity-hobby and they said they only ship out the new version even if people order the stock part number.
You are always safe if you order the CNC version though.

The CNC elevator and aileron arms also have the holes in a straight line so you don't have to mess about with the offsets

Why do you think you need the metal blade grips and head block? Is this just for safety or actual improved flying characteristics? I was under the impression that the metal blade grips were for people running higher heads speeds say above 2200 rpm
I havent bothered with this upgrade yet as I dont run my head speed above 2100 rpm but should I re consider this?

yes the metal grips are really just for safety for running over 2100 rpm, i flew many flights on stock plastic, and conluded that for $60 it was well worth the metal, one crash or failure would have cost me more then that.

I ordered the Hurricane 550 Pro because ive always wanted a carbon fiber framed heli.
Plus it was a good deal in the combo w/ Futaba 401 ect.

Thanks for all the reply's! I think im going for the metal head but stock frame!
The motor and ESC set will be replaced with de Z motor and a 60A ESC.
The next step will be A123 cells I think!
Greets oscar.

That's a smart choice. Exactly what I would have chosen if I was buying from scratch again. I presume the kit you have ordered has the extended motor mount and extended intermediate shaft. If not, you definitely need this also.
