Congrats Jamie, nice job !
I on the other hand experienced defeat today. I botched an auto and tore up my blades, tail boom, feathering spindle, flybar and (maybe the main shaft). Luckily, I didn't tear up my canopy (nice one) and nothing else was broken. So I guess I did ok.
I was working on a vibration problem that is dampener related when the muffler came off, at that time. I came out of stunt mode, turned her around, wasn't sure what was happening with it and decided the safe thing to do was to hit throttle hold and set her down, when I did, the engine died (my fault, didn't have it set with a high enough idle) and the wind was blowing pretty hard.... at any rate, I got her to the ground, did a little "airplane" type skid in and the all heck broke loose. It could have been a lot worse. I just hate loosing the blades! :arggg: I have all the parts on hand to fix the rest.
Glad you day went good, sorry to unload my troubles, but just to re-interate, the good and the bad are all part of this great hobby.
Have a great weekend and burn some nitro !

Charlie, sorry to hear that. Muffler coming off? Wow, makes me worried about mine. Im glad you have all the parts available. I bet you had some very nice blades too. :arggg:
I bet my time is also coming too. I fear that my engine will indeed cut out in mid flight one day. I need to learn to do autorotations. Any suggestions?
I heard that TT engines go bad if not tuned correctly. And tuning them right is very tricky.
By the way, I took a gander at your gallery and had a great time. Beautiful Heli!! I see that you started last year with the a raptor 30 v1 like me
I have hope yet. hehe
Wow nose in, training gear break into the main blades. Oh my, doesnt sound too pretty.

Hey Jamie, don't worry, I was using a 2 piece muffler and I got this heli from another guy, I didn't check to make sure the muffler was put on correctly and I think that the o-rings that secure it to the pipe were in the wrong place. I wouldn't worry about a 1 piece muffler, just keep check and make sure your bolts are snug. That goes for all your screws/bolts, etc. Keep check on that stuff. My heli had a vibration and I think that is what caused the muffler to come loose.... plus the o-rings weren't seated correctly.
On learning autos, I need help too ! Set up your throttle hold and set it where when you flip to throttle hold that your engine will run in a high idle, high enough to get it a "little" light on the skids. This will give you some reserve in those 30 size blades. Start practicing at about 10' and just practice the "timing" on setting her down..... nice and easy. (I need to learn that part... :( ) heheheee
Some other folks might help you more than myself, local help is the best. Good luck and yes, the trick with catching the grass with my training gear was a REAL TREAT ! Man, that seems like a hundred years ago ! heheheee
Have a great weekend !

hmmm O rings. I had some O rings that came with my muffler too. I didnt know where they went to because there was no manual. I figured it slipped over the bolt that mounts the muffler to the engine. Is that correct?
If not, I better hurry up and change it. Yes its a 1 piece muffler. Should I put locktite on the bolts that mount the muffler to the engine?
Practicing Autorotations seem like its crashes waiting to happen lol.
I hope no mechanical failure happens anytime soon.
Charlie,
How often do you fly since last year? Can you do all that crazy 3d stuff like Duncan Osbourne? Is that purple heli your second heli after the raptor 30? Cause I was thinking ahead about my next heli, my mind and wallet says raptor 50. But the 60 sure looks nice.

Hey Jamie,
Not sure about your o-rings that you are refering to. I use blue locktite on my muffler bolts..... IF they don't use lock nuts, no locktite wanted or needed for lock nuts.
I fly about once a week on the average. I'm not a 3D'er, more like a 1.5D'er. I can do flips, rolls, loops, 540 turns, etc..... just not real good at it. I have been flying RC planes since the late 70's, so I have been in and out of RC for years.
On the Freya,
I have all the parts to rebuild except the blades. I am not sure, I may sell the heli.... it is a little more costly than I can afford. Crashes with it are 3 times what a Raptor or Gohbee costs.... I am broke... hehehe :( But at least I can smile about it.
I have the Freya upgraded to a Xspec with about $300 of spare parts. YS61 STII engine w/ two piece (SB?) muffler that I would put on someone at a good price..... My canopy is a Arizona Heli Fiberglass job that is worth about $175+, looks awesome. I would keep my electronics. I will have to think about the price, it's cheaper right now before I fix it... heheheee ;) All parts to fix it are in the supply of parts that I have.... except the darn CF blades.
If anyone is interested, drop me a PM. It's a good heli, I'm just over my head, financially.
Lets see.... my first heli was the Rappy V1, then Hawk Sport, then Gohbee Stinger 30, then Gohbee Stinger 50, then Century Airwolf scale bird, and now the Hirobo Freya Xspec. I would recommend a new flyer to go to a Rappy 50 or a Gohbee 50 for the next step. Cheap to fix and fly's great.

Thanks charlie,
locktite it is tonite. 1.5Der hehehe. I hope one day I can be even that. Im too scared to try new switches in flight like Idle1, or throttle hold.
I like that freya alot its very nice. Beautiful canopy.
Yeah I was leaning towards the rappy 50 also. But which one is the question. The $489 standard kit with TT50 looks inticing because of the price and the fuel savings on the TT50 compared to the $590 0S50 hyper, then also the Special Edition rappy 50 looks beautiful also. But I heard that the TT50 is hard to tune and is unreliable. Any thoughts on that charlie? Right now Im trying to get the most of this Rappy30 v1. Just thoughts.

Standard Rappy 50 with OS50sxh or hyper or Gohbee Stinger with OS50hyper. Get an OS and be happy. I'm not sure the YS50 is in the states yet, but that is what I would like to have in a R50 or a S50 !

sounds good,
does the hyper drink alot of fuel? With my rappy 30 now I get about 20min run times which makes me really happy.

Not much difference in the two on fuel, yes the 50 uses more, just not that much more.

So i guess the best choice for my next heli would be basic raptor 50 kit with 0S50 hyper motor. I get about 20min now. Whats the average on the hyper? I hope its not like 10 min or so.
thanks for the help,
Beautiful heli your selling, wish I could afford to get one of those.

Not sure, never timed my S50, but would guess about 15minutes. Have a great weekend !
