View Full Version : Crashed on maiden flight LOL

I bought a ARF foam Cessna that came with a free outrunner motor back in December right when I got interested in helis. I've never flown it and not really sure why I bought it. Impulse buy I guess and it was a good deal. I built it and it's just been sitting.

Anyway, I figured it's been sitting around long enough, I should go out and fly it at least once. I did a quick check - prop spins, control surfaces move - yep, should be good to go.
It started down for a maiden take off roll and it drifted left a little. A little rudder during the roll no problem and just as it lifts off, it goes left. I used aileron to go right but it dives left and slams into a curb of the parking lot! I said "we'll that was a short flight".

As it turns out... I had the aileron reversed, or rather the channel should have been reversed but was not. Right was left and left was right. :rolling I remember reversing that channel when I built it, but for some reason I changed it back.

It's broken now. I think all three wheels made it off the ground for maybe 10 feet.
I should just stick with helis. :YeaBaby:

Anyway, just thought I'd share the story. I was laughing. A little dissapointed, but since I had the rare opportunity to burn 5 packs in one of my T-rex's, I didn't really care.

Too Bad!
I think we have all had that happen to some degree.

My first heli flight. Nice hover. I set it down to take a mental break. Hit the programing buttons by mistake and reversed the throttle. Fly straight up and over. Crashed into small pieces. Rebuilt and is a joy to fly.

My first 40 size airplane. My friend told me to drive it around on the ground. I did, but hit the throttle too high and it took off. Not being prepared I turned it back and around and now the controls are opposite. Straight down into the pavement. That plane took me 4 months to build and 3 seconds to crash........

Sorry to hear about the crash. Planes are fun! I have a few. Get back on and rebuild and fly the thing.

Oh I'll get it fixed. I just got some foam safe CA accelerator yesterday.
If it didn't slam on the nose so hard and break the "firewall" it wouldn't have been so bad.

A little glue, a few braces here and there. No problem.
It'll fly. It has to... my kids want to see it fly more than my helis.

Well it's all fixed up and it flies! The kids even got to see its real maiden flight.
It was pretty windy and gusty for this lightweight guy so I only flew it twice, a few times around the pattern.
