Well my 9303 came in yesterday so of course I couldn't resist heading to the field today. Weatherman stated 15MPH winds with higher gusts, but I was hopeful he was wrong. Heck, he never seems to guess right anyway! Well today he got lucky and called it correctly, just my luck. Lots of reading here taught me how wind causes excessive lift and how to compensate, so I did okay. One nasty bounce when the wind died suddenly, but no broken parts! I've been on G3 for a few months, and that helped imensely with orientation. Flying the real thing is much more intense, mostly thinking real crashes are a little harder to swallow as opposed to reaching over and tapping the spacebar! I have a newfound respect for you guys that make it look easy! I am inspired to one day be among your ranks!

Regards,
Billy

I'm just learning to fly too, and one thing you need to know to be able to have fun all the time and to do so is to fly in the wind but be careful.Remember small movements.Dont over correct yourself and above all relax! :glasses:

Hammer,

Most will tell you to keep the nose of the heli pointed into the wind, which minimizes the effect of the wind on the heli. When you get to hovering from the side, you will notice the wind has a greater influence!

Hope this helps!

Usually when you are nose in to the wind...You have a better control. If the heli starts to rise cause the wind is giving it mor lift...push forward on the stick which will drop the nose of the heli. You may have to pull back on throttle a little. This should keep you at a semiconstant desirable height.

While we're talking about wind, what about performing autos... rumor has it that it's easier landing into the wind, as there's lift available if and when you need it, right?

That is right..I like to auto into the wind...You still have to manage your collective even though there is wind..Pratice your autos on the sim ,I try to every day...

thanks for the info over here it gets pretty hairy with the wind my friend told me if you wait for a calm day in Kuwait you will never fly so ill put the nose in the wind and practice practice until I get good at it . :D
