Need some ideas on what battery and charger I should get for my t rex 600, what do you guys use?

While I do not fly a 600, I use Air Thunder and Dualsky batteries and an e-Station BC-8 charger.

That's a pretty wide-open question.

What do you want from your heli ? Learning/Sport/3D/wild power/long runtime/efficiency/gentle on the batteries ?

What do you want from your batteries ? Lightest weight/Highest power/longest runtime/longest lifetime/greatest durability/safety/lowest price ?

Are you sticking with the stock 6s motor/esc or would you consider alternatives ? Are you sticking with the stock frames (since this limits your choices for motors) ?

Popular modern chargers would include:

FMAdirect BalancePro (LiXx only, integrated balance charger, 2s-6s, 240W output)
TP1010+210V (multichemistry, 2s-10s, 220W output)
eStation 902 + PB6 (multichemistry, 2s-12s, 200W output)
Hyperion 1210i + LBA10 (multichemistry, 2s-12s, 180W output)
eStation BC8 (multichemistry, integrated balance charger, 2s-8s, 150W output)

Remember you will need a 250W DC power supply to run the most powerful of these so include that in your budget. If 6s or 8s is enough for you then I really like the safety, convenience and simplicity of the integrated balance chargers.

Probably the most popular battery setup is 6s ~5000mAh (FP or TP). This suits most kinds of flying except those looking for wild power. The 6s packs are quite stressed in a T600 and many find they do not last all that long, especially for aggressive pilots. Hence higher voltage setups are popular for their inherently higher efficiency as well as potential for more power. There are proponents of both 8s and 10s for better overall performance. 8s is still quite a bit cheaper than 10s.

An interesting alternative is 10s-15s A123 batteries which have many advantages including: inherently safe, close to zero fire risk, mechanically and electrically robust, tolerate 100% discharge, tolerate over charging, can be safely charged at 4C without loss of performance or lifetime, 500 to 2000 cycle lifetime and half the cost of lipos. Some disadvantages including being heavier for the same power/capacity than lipos, you have to build you own packs and due to the size/weight tradeoffs, you usually end up with shorter flights on any given heli compared to lipo. Still well worth considering especially if you don't already have a large investment in lipos and lipo chargers. A 10s A123 is similar size, weight and performance to an 8s lipo but considerably cheaper (around $120).

for my trex600 i use a Hyperion 1210i charger, Flightpower balancer
and battery's i use Flightpower EVO25 6S1P 5000mah
all works good havent had a problem with any of the gear in 6 months

The other new technology alternative for batteries is the AirThunder (aka KongPower) 6s 5000mAh 25C lipos. These are more tolerant of over discharge than conventional lipos. Well worth considering.

Yesterday I flew my Ion on 20%'ish charged Flightpower packs. When the ESC started cutting out in the first 2 minutes of flight, it dawned on me what I had done. :DOH

I put 4100+ back in (2) 4350 packs (5S packs x 2) and while the chargers (dual TP1010) did give me warnings about low voltage and put the batteries in "recovery mode" the packs did charge back up in about an hour and 10 minutes. They flew like the day I bought them... used.

Lord knows how many flights are on them now.

i a really considering the kong power, for the stock t rex 600 do you need the 6s? cause i am a beginner, and i want something that can take some beating.

My son and I have 2 TP1010 chargers with TP210 Balancers, 3 FlightPower 6S1P 4900 batteries. 2 of our batteries have well over 200 cycles on them and still perform great! FlightPower cost a bit more than the cheap packs but will prove their worth many times over in the long haul.

The stock TRex600 is a 6s setup so the KP 6s 5000 brick pack is what you want. IMO these are good packs for beginners since they are more tolerant of over-discharge mistakes than most others. Since beginners tend to bunny-hop, taking off and landing many times in one flight, timing the flight is not always effective.

I have a Hyperion 1210i with two LBA 10 balancers. It can charge up to 12s, which means 2x 6s packs at once, with the proper power supply. I have Flight Power 6s1p 4900 mAh packs and I think they are absolutely great. I have some Air Thunders for my 450, and they are good packs, but still comparing them with the FP's.

Yep, i bought myself the hyperion EOS 1210i today and the LBA10. only $150.00 with my employee discount at my LHS. Looks great, now i just need the kong powers and I 600 will have its first flight
