Hi
i have approx twenty or so uneventful tanks through my Evo' i have practiced and practiced nose in landings on the simulator and my trex450 no problems. i was a little bit braver than usual and fighting a little wind issue trying to land nose in' went ok except my Evo wasnt quite flat on its skids and proceeded to tippe toe on its front skids!!! need i say more but i gave the wrong input and buried my radix blades.
The question i have a put a small dent in the boom about 6 inches away from the tail rotor' barley noticable but would the more experienced heli pilots reccomend changing out the boom due to a possible weakness now in the tail boom?
The last thing i would want to see is the boom fold up under load and cause a crash
what do you think? i have spare booms' just a lot of work changing it.

thx

Unless you are hammering out piro flips I can't see how a barely noticible ding would cause any problems as long as the belt doesn't rub on it. Just make sure you don't have any kink / stress marks up where the boom is clamped to the frame.

How much is an Evo boom?
How much is a pair of blades, main mast, flybar, feathering spindle,...labor.

I wouldn't risk it. The forces that the newer Heading hold gyros can put on the heli, especially if fighting a crosswind, are much higher than you might think. I tried using a socket and a flat faced hammer on an old shuttle when I was young and more broke than smart, and it worked OK, for a while, until the tail folded and everything went down like a clay pigeon hit dead center.

Booms are cheap, and probably the most commonly damaged part in a heli, especially when you start learning autos. Buy them several at a time. I used to buy Raptor ones 5 at a time, since I was dinging them pretty often.
