Hi,

Only a bit of test flying, my life keeps taking time away from my hobbies. I have the main body ready for final build as soon as I make 2 cuts. The heli is pretty much setup, I will try and get some more images over the next few days. I have purchased the original bird that this was based on, and I am happily casting some more stuff to add on. Including the fuel pods :)

Well, I can get off the ground with the 4 blade head and standard 450 setup. I need to tweak a few settings but I am finishing the body while it rains (it always rains when want to fly.)

Here is a view form the top front, notice I have cut a slot so I can just slide the mechanicals in and out.

Here is a shot from the front with the mechanicals mounted, notice how nice and roomy the is fuse is. On thing that is not in this shot is the riser I need to add to raise the mechanicals to clear the motor wiring. I need about 1/4 inch, which generates a minor tail issue.

With the nose attached, note the bulk of the gap will be closed in, that piece had glue drying so it was not included.

I am currently casting a few bits, that I want to replace, the IR 'disco ball', drop tanks, drop tank mounts (might just scratch build them) and winch.

I am amazed at your build! I crewchief the blackhawk here in Iraq and am absolutely amazed at your build. Now I am forced to do one but first i have a few questions... How are you going to get your tail rotor pitch link to go up the extension? Which elevated tail did you get; the 85 or 68mm? And the what do you plan on using for the ALQ ("disco ball")? Thanks for the great build thread! If you need any pics or anyhting let me know.

Well the tail was just a joy seeing as it is way up there. I use a flex tube to actuate the tail. It works very well actually. The tail is a custom length with a custom belt.

Tail upswing tube is 13.5 cm or about 5.5 inches in length

Belt is a 546 or 548 tooth, I need to check my spare to confirm.

I will get some images next time around.

Now if someone (hint hint ddragon) would finish his testing of his 4 blade tail I would be very happy. There is a wee bit of tail drift with the 4 blade head at speed.

rgallant-
What brand belt are you using then? Also, do you have a link? I figured the flexible pushrod for the tail would work but wasn't sure. I too am hoping ddragon gets the 4 blade tail done. That will complement this bird quite well. Again, you have done very well on your build.

I ordered from Sterling Instrument, they are a little wierd to deal with but very helpful.

The belts are MXL - part number A 6Z16-5460012 to the 546 length the 548 is part number A 6Z16-5480012

WOW!!! Thats all I can say on this build. That is truly a master piece, also by Darth. I am/was a UH-60 Mechanic/Crewchief that spent 10 years in active service with 6 years Air Assault and 4 years MEDEVAC. Two of that in Iraq MEDEVAC and 1 year Bosnia MEDEVAC. If you need some pictures of my aircraft in the sandbox for reference or just to look at, let me know. Also, I've worked on 222s and have some great pictures of when Air Force 1 was landing here at Fort Benning with GW and the 222 in the foreground. Keep of the good work.

Good Morning Mr Bobby,

If you would be so kind to post some of the Bell 222 photo's. Trying to get some details for the scale 50 size fuselage I have.

Thank You

Let me know if you need anymore...this is the one's that I thought was cool with Air Force One. It's the same paint scheme as the one on the Real Flight, LOL. Its an Air Methods helicopter, (LifeNet Georgia) I've also got pics of the Blackhawks I worked in Iraq and during Hurricane Katrina.

sorry don't know how to resize the pictures...but at least you get a GOOD look at the 222 and its U Model, with skids, thank god. I hate to work on the retract ones, in real life that is.

Hi all,

The build has had a small set back, I busted the tail angle changer. So while I wait for a new one things will be paused. I swapped back to the stock head and standard tail. That at least will let me test fly the forward cabin and get my weight adjusted and check for falling bits.

I will keep this up to date as I go forward.

I'm thinking about undergoing a similar build. Time to watch this thread. Well done and I look forward to updates. :)

I'd definately recommend the tail kit from CNC helicopter over high torque if you haven't already gotten the replacement.
