Getting ready to install my Muscle Pipe 5 and it touches the bottom frame. I can still install no problem but I've been told to grind out the frame so the pipe doesn't touch the frame. Is this necessary and why?

yes , grind a little of the bottom plate so the MP5 doesn't touch. If left to touch , it could cause a lockout due to the rubbing of the pipe and carbon bottom plate together. causing frequency interference.

You need to file it down. It will either burn a hole in the carbon, or your muffler.
Bottom line it needs to clear.

For this and other reasons I did not go with the MP5 and went with the Align pipe. After the Buzzin the Border funfly and seeing the difference in action, I went with the Align pipe.
BUT the best running 600n I saw was Jason's and that was with a YS and MP1... CRAP MAN that thing had some power for sure.

I've a MP5 and OS 50 Hyper fitted in my 600n Sport and haven't noticed any clearance problems near the frames! Am I looking in the wrong place?

I put one on my Raptor after seeing it in action and really like it. It costs alot less than the Hatori and its almost as quiet and produces the same power (from what i can tell anyways)

Mine was very slightly rubbing the carbon near the weld joint on the muffler. I just took my dremel and rounded out a little relief area there. No biggie.

From what ive tried, that is the best set up so far. Os on a Align pipe.
Its just......crazy power:D. If you can time it right, you can tic toc as fast as a 600E
Mp5 great pipe(OS Only:wink:).....but shes been dubbed already :D

I've heard the Align pipe gives the OS 50 awesome power but is constructed very poorly, flies apart on occassion and dents easily. If this is the case, I'll give up a little power to avoid my muffler from flying apart and possibly causing me to crash. Align seems to have a reputation of getting their products out with little testing first. Seems like just about every time I buy one of their new products there are serious quality issues. Maybe in a couple of months when their V2 pipe comes out, I'll buy one.
Meantime, I installed my muscle pipe 5 and had to grind out an area about half the size of a pea on the lower support frame. No big deal. Not enough to weaken the frame. I've got about 1 to 2 mm of clearance...I guess that's enough.

Called up Curtis Youngblood and asked about grinding the frame. He said if the muffler touches the frame, the engine vibration will wear a hole in the muffler.
He's gotten several mufflers back with holes in them. So if your muffler touches your frame, you'd better notch the frame and get some clearance.

I'll stick with my Align pipe, which is making awesome power, is not dented, and has not fallen apart.

Maybe you are talking about the early test Align pipes? Yes I saw some of those early ones come apart but the production units I am told have solved this. A firend of mine Fireup has probably 50 flights on his now and no sign of it coming apart.

CY is no stranger to substandard welding and pipes flying apart.
FWIW all the Align pipes I have seen have been fine there's been quite a few of them popping up at our field including mine and I have another one on order.
If noise were more important than cost or power I would go with the Hatori any day though. All depends on what you're after, there's no "best pipe" just like there is no "best car"

Good glad to hear they are not flying apart... Just what someone told me. Same person also told me the 2 in 1 wires were falling off...hope that's not true either. In any event, I hot glued the wires in place.

I think we shouldn't worry Danny Szabo doesn't mod his 2 in 1, and for the one flight I saw of it nothing bad happened. Danny said he has had no problems with the 2 in 1. Danny also uses the align pipe and align blades.
Just in case you wanted to know Danny Szabo doesn't work for Align anymore. He works for Thunder Power developing their new helis.

Charlie, the owner of ThunderPower batteries, is developing a full line of RC helicopters. He has a very bright engineer by the name of Christopher Stevenson heading up the design work. Christopher worked for miniature aircraft and developed one of their helicopters. He’s an Electrical Engineer and has many years experience in the RC field. Charlie also hired Danny Szabo and Marcus Kim. With the new competition between Align and ThunderPower, I think you will see RC helicopters advance at an exponential rate in the next few years. I’m new to this hobby but from what I’ve been told, ThunderTiger was the only game in town in town for many years and had no incentive to improve their products. On the other hand, Charlie and the Align owner have no problem with change and will constantly improve their products. Bottom line, I think the next few years will be pretty exciting with new products and RC heli innovation. The competition will be great for us.

Apparently Danny got a better deal from ThunderPower. I've been told Align wished him the best of luck and they parted on the best of terms. Purely business, nothing personal and no hard feelings.

Here's a picture of the offending area. I only had my bottom plate untrimmed for about four tanks and you can see the nice nick in my weld.

Wears a hole in the muffler like it's butter.
