I have been offered a pretty attractive deal on the standard Raptor 90. Would you recommend this bird for someone who is only capable of FFF with a Trex 600 (i.e. No 3D yet) or should I spend $340 more and get the 90 SE. I have heard the CF frame and metal head will not survive in a crash and that's the reason I am considering the STD version. What are the pros and cons for each.

I bought a Raptor 60 as a FIRST EVER helicopter and would not recommend that but.. if you can hover well and are flying in forward flight I would say go for it. I would wait for you first upgrade opportunity (crash) before working about adding bling and better handling.

Some peices on the metal head bend when crashed (all of which are replaceable in components), and in the 4 years I've been flying 90 SE's I've never broken a carbon frame set.

Same here, R60 as 1st and my 2nd is the R90SE, which I crashed a couple of times (one pretty good one on the maiden) and the CF survived, but... when you break that CF boom+CF shaft+ bend metal head you start to add quite a few $ in spares.
I would suggest (and this comes from another newbie) that if you get a good deal on the R90 go for it, you can always upgrade it to an SE in the future.
Another $0.02 (now you have $0.04 to spend in bling:YeaBaby:)

I'm flying the Raptor 50 SE almost completely blinged. Thinking about a 90 but can't deside on the 3D or SE. I added up the pluses and minuses of what I like / dislike about both and they come up to the same number. Dollar value of those pluses and minuses, well I have not figured that into the equation yet. One of the minuses for the SE, I like the metal blade grips, however I understand you are limited in the blades you can get for the bird due to it being 12mm root. Is this a problem?
I Have the 90 SE and I have used Sabs, Vblades and Radix. There is a good choice of 680,690, 710.....so no problem for me.
If you are interested in a crisp feel go with metal. plastic tends to flex and twist a bit.
The SE is the only 90 I own so I cannot compare it thoroughly to JRīs, Auroraīs or other similars. All I can say is that it is a beautiful machine, Itīs great building it and flying it. The problem I see is weight. it is heavier than his brother the Rap 90 3D.
