Okay, since this is my first large electric I've got a question I can't find an answer to.

Is anyone running a seperate Rx pack on a 500 3D? If so how big?

Thanks.

2cell (20-30c) 2350mah lipo for now.

If you run regular servos and not digital, you can go a littlebit lower if you want to. But for me using digital servos i feel this mah i have to be about the minimum i want... i do want more

FlightPower EVORX 1320 through a duralite 6v reg with a step down on the tail!

I'll be using 8717s so I'll probably run them on 8v and only regulate the tail servo. I have been told that the JR 9ch 2.4Ghz reciever will handel a 2s LiPo without a regulator and so will the V-stabi.

i deffo reccommend a larger pack if running 2s directly. Something like the 2100mAh 2s Flightpower EVOLite cell would do well for that

With a 2s lipo running direct to JR9000's I would get about 4-5 flights before I charged. I'm sure you could have pushed that out further with a couple of more flights, I charged when the pack was at 7.4v.

Hey Guys,

We're running 2s 1320 FP rx packs with the Emcotec DPSI Micro.
For competitions and funflies we have the light 2s 800 FP packs.

And why not use:

Western Robotics Hercules 5amp 5 AMP Battery Eliminator Circuit HC

taking volts direct from motor flight packs? Save weight.

That is what I'm doing.

On my big ship i use the 2s lipo direct to my Arizona regulator and that works great, on my little smaller heli i use the 2s lipo direct to my align 6A regulator with a 5v stepdown to gyro and it's servo.

Running the servos at 6v works great for me, much better theen 4,9v... but i think most know that.

Having a real good regulator that gives good amps is very important, as you dont want a lockout etc cause of a to small regulator (not enough amps), running the system and being on the edge of what it can deliver.

Better to put a few extra $$ on the system to mimimize the chance of a failure and a very expencive crash..... dont know what to do to upgrade dumb-thumb's, but simtime is a good start

Two more votes for the WR HBEC. Of course, I was following OICU812's recommendations, but couldn't be happier. The idea of forgetting to charge a second pack, and my overall forgetfulness, drove me straight away from a second pack.

Well i recently bought the WR BEC 5 Amp running at 6V's powered from my 10S main pack. Looked a great little setup but no matter what i tried with ferrite rings and the like i never got a good range test. Whenever the WR Bec was connected i'd get 10 metres max range check and if i powered from a Rx battery 30-40 metres no problem. Been bugging me all weekend and am probably buying the duralite setup running of a 2S lipo to give that a go.
I know one thing, there'll never be an align bec in my V-Bar 600.

Well I bought the 3 amp WR Bec and I am hoping it will be enough....so far after about 20 flights I have had no issues.

It should be fine, the WR bec are very under rated, the 3 is said to be more like 7 and the 5 is almost a 10 in reality. Look at the caps alone, lol.

I know the caps are huge, I had two guys ask me why I had to run two ESC's on my heli....LOL
