I have that gyro on my 550, my Trex 450, and my HB King - it certainly is OK for hovering / gentle FF - I've haven't tried anything more exciting yet (I'm still learning)

In the kit I bought, the same batteries and charger were included. After the first or second flight the batteries were slightly puffed, and they always gets very hot. The charger only charges at 800 mA so it will take you some time to recharge (3h/battery*2=6 hours).
I would try to find a kit without batt and charger, or with better batteries included.

that is the kit I got but with out the TX, when I got it almost 3 months ago it sold for $330 shipped and it was a deal. the battereis as stated are not up to the Hurricane but do ok in my tTRex, although on my first or second flight I puffed one battery so one didn't last at all. I never tried the Gyro but I sold it for $30 as soon as it came in. I also sold the servo's, i did test fly them and they worked pretty good, i got $20 for all 4. personally I think now his kit is overpriced, but for $330 it was a steal.

The Futaba 6EXH is a very limited Tx. Lots of features you will want, are not there, and other things will make yo uwish you had a different one over time.
The gyro is really low end (you can buy them on eBay for about $40). They work, but are harder to setup (to remove creep) and don't perform as well as a 401 or 2100T.
I would contact ReadyHeli and put together a package of GOOD stuff that will carry you forward, not backwards.

And a separate pitch curve for throttle hold. :)

Never heard of that - is that for autorotations ???

Yes, and it can also be used when checking setup to keep the motor from running, but 6EXH uses one of the other pitch curves (Norm IIRC) instead of having its own.
Nothing that makes it impossible to use, just little things that will make yo uunhappy long term.

Futaba 7c FAAST is in my future.
Lousy CCPM performance, look here: http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t172571p1
BTW, the Spektrum DX6i has been announced and from the spec.s will be a sensation 6-ch radio, far superior to the 6EX and cheaper too ($180 for Tx and AR6200 full range 6ch RX): http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdId=SPM6600

Only I can buy used R790 fully synth PCM Rxes for unde $70 (now falling to around $50).
Or I can go Spektrum/JR and buy a nice 7 ch Rx for $75, 6 ch for under $50.

Does anyone know if the DX7 that they import to the UK is different from the one used in the good ole US of A ???.
I can buy MUCH cheaper online in USA than I could here in the UK, but is it fully compatible ???
Thanks,
Mike.

there is something about the euro version being less powerful. the signal is not as strong... to meet UK/ euro specs. I heard you can get the US version modified... and it comes with special sticker that shows it complies to the UK specs.
I also read the reason you may just want to do the mod... is if you are discovered to have the US version... and they determine you had/ caused an accident with it... your version of our AMA insurance does not have to cover your accident.
I think I was reading this in the DX7 section of RR... if you want to look up the thread.

There is no Futaba 7c Faast in the test. I dont think its out yet. Have you looked at the DX6i?
It wont take much to have more features than a Futaba 6x but its not going to have the features of a 7c.
Plus I am a Futaba snob.
At least the DX6i has subtrim unlike my 6x. I say Uncle.

Quite so. The 7c FASST is not out yet. Given the performance of the existing 6ex/7x/9c/9z/12mz/14mz covered in the test I would bet that the FASST version of the 7c will be keeping it's core software and so much the same performance characteristics. We will probably see a similar shift in the base latency as we did for the 6ex FASST from the FM version, but the wide latency range and slew rate limiting issues will most likely remain. Of course you are right and it makes more sense to compare a DX7 to the 7c FASST than a DX6i.

Not the case AFAIK. What I heard was as follows...
They (sought special certification for 'unlicensed' 2.4Ghz transmitters in the 100mWatt range specially for the DX7 - previously this was limited to 10Mwatt (laptop WiFi etc.) without a special license. This was granted (in the UK) late last year hence the sudden surge of demand for DX7s.
The only issue that you will have is that the importers are taking a stance that they will no perform warranty work on any Tx that does not hace a "CE" sticker - which is on all European sourced models.. Probably a bid to try to make buying a cheap import unattractive.
