I've built a new Compass Knight 50 3D Nitro and can't seem to find anywhere that has the YS50 ST engine.

Does anybody have any info on the availability of it?

Thanks

You will probably have to wait until the distributor receives his next allotment. The down side of using YS engines is that they are made in relatively small quantities and distributors only receive a fraction of their requirements.

YS Parts and Service is the North American distributor; perhaps they can let you know when they expect their next allotment. http://www.yspartsandservice.com/index.php

If you don't receive a reply give them a call.

I've been already looking for a week and can't find any anywhere. So probably by the end of tonight if I don't get any responces from two other sources I've inquired also, I'll probably just go for the OS Hyper 50.

Kinda sucks.

I would suggest to go ahead and get the OS 50 Hyper. It may be a year or more before the YS 50 is available again. It was over a year between the first release and the second one. As mentioned YS makes the engines in small batches, at least that seems to be the case with the heli engines. Now if you need a YS engine for your pattern plane, you will have no problem finding them. YS Performance here in the USA did not have the 50 heli engine till a year after it was released in shops in the rest of the world.

Yea, I think I'm going with the OS Hyper 50. No use me waiting around forever to get my heli flying.

I found one through Zoomsheli that somehow had one in stock.

They also have them in stock in Japan here:

I ordered from Japan originally till I found one here in the states.

Ishii Mokei charges high shipping charges. Also if you get it from Japan, you would have to send it back to Japan for any warranty work. YS Parts and Service here in the USA will only warranty YS motors that are purchased in North America. Don't know if they still do it. But they use to put a cartouche mark on the engines that were imported thru them. So if they got an engine for warranty work and it didn't have the mark on it. They sent it back to the person and told them to send it to Japan.

I'm not convinced that the 65 dollar price difference is worth it, and what happens when you need parts besides bearings (which btw are identical to the OS)

They put the motor on a shelf and then buy an OS Hyper. LOL If the motor is hard to obtain, what does that say about the parts when needed.

It seems those that I"ve talked to that have had both the OS Hyper 50 and the YS50, say they have never gone back to the OS due to the higher performane the YS50 gives. I always like to get the best stuff if its available. Why get second class when you can have 1st class.

BTW, I got my YS50 today!!! :)

Its more consistent due to the fuel regulator and crank case pressure that it uses, less needle tweaking.

As for higher performance? I dobut it. And the rear bearing that always gets dogged on the Hyper is the same bearing in the YS.

Personally, I don't know if its better because I'd yet to use both. But those that have, say they've never gone back to the OS.

I want to try for testing one day the NovaRossi .50 also.

I have flown both the YS 50 and the OS 50 Hyper. I could not tell the difference between them as to power or how they ran. For the cost of the engine and the availability of parts and service. I will stick to the OS. The OS also has a 2 year warranty.
As your new to helis and especially nitro engines now. Good luck with your venture into the nitro side of the hobby. There is always people that use a product and say they have never gone back to another brand product. Been in this hobby nearly 20 years. It has always been that way. This week they will say it is the best and only thing out there. Next week they are saying the same about another brand of the same product. I was a YS Team pilot for 10 years.

Yea, well see what happens. Hopefully I won't have too much hassle getting it tuned.
