I decided to have a go at painting my own canopy. While I don't think it will win any prizes It does look better than what it was (just the regular white canopy with pealing decals).

Shame you don't live in the UK. I'd pay you to paint all my canopies. :D

Nice job :thumbs-up2:

Howd you do it....Hows it holding up?

It's holding up excellently so far (but then I haven't flown it since the paint job). I flamed the plastic thoroughly before using a flexible bumper primer and then Krylon Fusion for the colors. The stuff won't flake off, you have to scratch it off.

Here's a couple of close-up's (the colors are solid, it's a low-res pic)...

Looks good...I wondered if you flashed it... Let us know how the "Ears" hold up since that will be the most flexing part when you mount and dismount the canopy.

Bart, sorry you didn't make B'ham. It was a great event. I would have like to meet you in person. On the ears, I am going to have to repaint my Stinger canopy due to the "ears". It is a tough spot to get paint to stay on.

Duracizer, your paint job looks great. Nice job.

I did my hawk with spray bombs, and so far the ears are holding up.
6 gallons on the last engine, and 1 1/2 on the new 37.. nose has chips, but that's from riding in a toolbox in the truck while I travel back and forth from GA to NC..
some far away pics in my gallery. Red, White and Blue faded one to the next..
I think the flame-flashing works!!

ya ever see one of those go off in a burn barrel?? Man, crap goes 50 feet high or higher!
Paint one near a space heater fired by kerosene or propane and watch what happens, hopefully from a distance!
