View Full Version : Shorted / Dead Battery?

After I soldered the negative lead of a Dean's Ultra on one of my new Kong batteries (the pos lead was done and shrink tubing put on it), I picked up the hot plug with my needlenose pliers and evidently the tip of the pliers broke the shrink tubing on the positive terminal causing a couple sparks.
Is the battery shorted and dead? How can I confirm if it is or isn't?

Kongs have a fuse in them that is designed to blow in that kind of situation. To check if it is, put a meter on the plug and see if it reads right, if it does, then you're good to go. If it reads zero, but the balance leads still work, then the fuse is gone. Get ahold of Ready Heli and have them help you out, I know they have replacement boards for the fuse.

I don't have a meter. Is there any way I can check it through my charger (Triton 2)?

Sure, plug it in. If it works, great, if it doesn't see anything plugged in, it's dead.
I'd suggest going to Radio Shack and buying a multimeter, it'll cost you $20 for a cheap one, and is a great way to answer questions on all manner of RC things, plus it's handy for other things as well.

Thanks for the advice. You're right, I really should have a meter, guess I'll pick one up today.
**Update**
Put battery on my balancer & charger, all three cells OK. Double checked it on a meter, still OK.
Got lucky, thought I was out $60.00.
