Does your DX7 make a noise?

Ya. Kind of a light buzzing or something. Thought it was just me.

I never noticed that (except when it caused occasional "noise" on my TV when working on my 450).

Yes its the voltage regulator that buzzes, its the same regulator that chews batteries so fast.

Which you can replace with a Dimension Engineering regulator for better batt life.

I was interested in this mod but I don't think you can get them in the UK?

Dimension Engineering ships worldwide. About $1.50 for snail mail.

For the benefit of others, here is the mod:

I would love to get increased run time out of my Tx, but I don't trust my skills enough to hack the board of a $300+ Tx that is used to pilot much more expensive machines capable of causing plenty of damage to people an property if I lost a radio link. Plus, I'm not sure how the AMA would look upon such a mod.
Not worth the risk to me, but if I was only piloting parkies, I'd probably hack away.

That's for the DX6.......I could swear someone posted somewhere else in Helifreak that the DX7 already has a decent regulator in it.

I realize the one shown is the DX6, but was just going by this blurb at bottom of page:
Updates:
Some of the gang at RCGroups have some soldering tips here (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=548325&page=7&pp=15)
This mod can also be done with the DX7
***The 5V DE-SW050 is NOT the voltage regulator you want for this mod. You want the 3.3V DE-SW033***
its not the regulator buzzing it is actually coming out of the speaker on your DX7. i tripped a crossed this when i was modifying mine
Here is my fix
http://helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=49184 (http://helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=49184)
Uses the same huge power consuming chip as the old one

I'm ordering the 3.3V switching voltage regulator from Dimension Engineering for mine
http://www.dimensionengineering.com/DE-SW033.htm
$16.25 cant go wrong there

will do! its gona be a few weeks till i get paid again and can afford it. :(
I am using DX7 buzzing sound as indicator that RF part of it is working.
There was a couple times when DX7 was on (LCD screen was ok) but there was no RF signal, so no binding with rx. When I flipped power switch it went Ok.

That's not cool to know...especially after a guys heli attacked me and he swore he lost a radio link on his 9303 w/ spektrum module.

Any feedback from the Dimension Engineering voltage regulator for the DX7? Any significant improvement?

If at least twice the batt. life is significant improvement i'd say yes.
