I have just finished replacing a few parts that were damaged when my heli decided to hug the ground when I told it not to those damn glitch 2.4ghz transmitters :-P anywayz... I fired her up after everything was replaced and nothing spun but the motor... few revs up and down of the throttle and it engaged...now obviously something has gone wrong with the one way bearing gear that drives the main large gear what i would like to know is, is it possible to drop this gear out WITHOUT splitting the frame... I am too knacked now after spending last 3-4 hours reassembling my heli to see if its possible to just loosen the grub screw on the gear the pinion gear runs onto and tap the shaft out from above then slide the one way gear bearing dooodah out...
Thanks in advance for any help fellas ;-)
just built a second ep550 from scratch and i put the one way gear in after the frame was screwed together.
slide the shaft out and push the one way bearing out the side.

Yep I pulled mine out without taking the sides apart, just like "mkc2" said. Also when you get the one-way bearing out, first check that gear is not spinning around on the bearing. That’s what happen to mine the first time I switched to Idle up mode. I just used a thin piece of nylon strapping and pressed the bearing back into the gear with the nylon. So far it is holding.

EXCELLENT!!!111oneoneone hehe
Just what I wanted to hear, was just too spent last night to have a crack at it, but now I am smiling from ear to ear as I know it aint going to take hours but minutes :-)
Cobra98.... I dunno about the 'fix' When the bearing did grab and allowed blades to spin up, it let go at around 3/4 throttle (i have the heli strapped down on a mount) and DAMN it nearly shook the heli to pieces like having a brick on the end of a rotor If it happened 30-40 feet up there would be no way even a szabo could save it... shall have a looksee anywayz and report back.
Thanks a alot for the fast replys fellas as always appreciated ;-)
p.s mick... you wouldnt happen to be the fella I met at Take of & Land awhile back by chance are you...? I got some excellent advice from that individual, was tossing up between buying a Gaui550 and a HDX500... the hurry was recommended and to say im estatic with the heli would be a gross understatement LoL... If it was you cheers ;-)

Fix N Fly Aussie.. hope you get it sorted out pronto.
We need to ask folks (no dig at you ) to add some context in about which frame bits they have... I KNOW you can drop this stuff (one way) out of the CF frame but I was just not sure about the other frames.... I'd have chimed in earlier if I knew.

Yes i should of made mention it was a 'placky' frame...
I have fixed the problem HOW i have no idea
As suggested i was able to drop the shaft and slide out the bearing, upon closer inspection and locking up the aluminum section of the bearing and trying to rotate the plastic gear it was rock solid didnt slip like cobra98's did...I cleaned the bearing and popped in some more grease reassembled everything and it works like new...go figure  When it slipped previously it had a very faint 'squeek' every rotation that is also now absent.
I did also remove the gear which the motor pinion gear runs on (one with two 'grub' screws...) They appeared tight and lined up with their respective 'dimples' on the shaft and there was no evidence of 'slippage' here either....has me a little stumped. I have been revving its box off on the stand treating it like i wouldn't in the air to try and make it fail but NUP! Sure as hell soon as i get max altitude it will crap itself again though loL...
I guess it will forever remain as mysterious as the pyramids...well not quite hehehe
Cheers fellas...

aaagh yes yes remembers the name now :-)
Strange thing happened yesterday the freakin bearing started slipping again out of the blue after 6 or so flights with no probs...popped it out again washed ALL grease from it dropped in some graphite powder IMMEDIATELY it started slipping just by turning it on the shaft by hand ;-| Cleaned the graphite out again blew it dry with compressed air and popped back in minus any lube...no slipping BUT obviously it ain't going to last too long with no lube....shall order new shaft and bearing ASAP i think...

Please make sure that the gear is not cracked between a tooth and slipping on the auto bearing. The gear splitting is a common problem with higher power setups. It is VERY hard to see that it is cracked trust me. I needed an eye loop (magnifying glass) to actually see it. You may be chasing that instead of the auto bearing actually slipping.

Cheers bob...cobra98 actually already mentioned that in his post :-) I checked this both times its impossible to turn the gear on the aluminum, i locked it firmly in the vice (not so firm as to break it) wrapped rag around gear and gripped it with pliers...it dont move... HAS to be the bearing itself IMO...
Cheers :-)
