Hoi,

Have a little problem on the bird!
Second flight and the maingear did get stripped.
Was doing some tic-toc's and pumping stalturns and in the pumping stalturn the maingear get stripped. (looks like melted, al the teeths are flat)

Been flying for 6 years, also have a TRex on 10S with NEU 1515/2Y (witch are know to strip) and never stripped a maingear.
Did the distance mesh with a paper like mentioned in the manual.
Checked the mesh with the hand.
Did good alignment of the motor.

For the rest, the bird is looking very promissing and is overal good quality and need NO upgrades.

What went wrong?

Thanks guys for your opinions.

Mario

The new helical gear sets are out and available.

Check out your local dealer and see if they have it yet.

the new helical gear should help.

I had the same problem with mine but when i installed the second maingear i made sure it was centralised on the hub and i had a good EVEN mesh. Since then i have had no problems to report.

Also looking fwd tot he helical cut gears

The blue main gears were made as people wanted a quieter heli. I just built 2 new xtremes, with the new helical white main gears and they so far hold up very well flying hard 3d.

Hoi,

Thanks already to all for the response.

So if I understand good Phil, the blue gear can fail under heavy stress because they are softer?

I did ask to my dealer, Alex from rcmarket, to command the helicall gears.
If these hold for Phil, it should resist for sure my flyingstyle.

Glad I could autorotate the heli with no damage at all.

Gear mesh was for sure EVEN en correct distance.

Thanks
Mario

for the record the stock raptor 50, 85 tooth grey gear is a direct fit if you are in a bind.

you are welcome Mario. you have to press the gear onto the hub like on a raptor, its a nice interference fit.

Hoi to all,

PROBLEM SOLVED, was building issue!

Did change the maingear with the raptors one.
Still had same issue : melting on the top of the maingear.
So I disassemble the whole drivetrain!

Bought the heli partial assembled from a man that told me:

"heli is build perfect and locktite applyed on al metal parts"

What I found!!

Middle bearing holder was mounted upside down so the autorotationblock was rubbing against the flange of the bearingblock.
To eliminate this problem builder had put two!! extra collars between upper and middle bearingholder so he could positioning the mainshaft and stop the rubbing. Of course the positioning was NOT perfect and in flight the maingear was touching the engine pinionblock, heating and melting!
When I called him to tell him what was going on with the two extra collars he told me it was a security issue, he liked it better this way, it was safer.
He did not told me he had trouble with positioning the mainshaft.

So I flipped the bearingholder and removed the two extra collars.
Autoroationblock can now take position against the bearing of the middleblock (flange is facing upwards now) and all is fitting like it is suppose to be.

-of course this issue is costing me an original maingear
-extra raptor maingear (also melted at top, 1.5 mm smaller, but holding for now the testflights)
-a toasted engine from overreving. (pistonring and to be sure pistonliner and piston is also changed)
-maingear had to be sanded where the guy put the two extra collars,(screw marks) was a pain in the a.. tho remove the mainshaft trough the bearings
-middle bearingblock with rubbing marks
-and finaly new maingear to replace the raptor maingear

If not self assembling and you don't know the guys abbility to built, be carefull and best is to disassemble and check everything.

Did two flights and everything is holding perfekt even with a raptor maingear that is 1.5 mm smaller because of the heating. Will change the raptor gear with the new helicall gears when they are in.

Mario,
Thanks for the update, thanks for letting us know what the issue was. Its good you let the thread know it was a building issue and not a machine issue.

In my 18 years of helies, I have purchased a total of four used helies. Each and every one of them ended up costing me a bundle in parts replacements due to poor building techniques.
Today the helies have become way too easy and lots of guys that can do the most stunning 3D manuevers but can't put 3 bolts together without stuffing it up.
