When using governors, do I still need to setup throttle curves?

Hi,
Yes you need to setup throttle curves for all flying modes. What if the Governor fails at least you have a backup.
Gravity is a lot faster than you think.
Thanks,

I use the GV-1 with the DX7. I run 1700 at idle1 and 1900 at idle 2. What throtle curves should i have in these modes?
I have a straight line now, but is it ok?

If you mean a straight line like 0,25,50,75,100 then NO not in idle 1 or 2! By default the GV-1 or just about any other gov will turn OFF when the throttle stick goes below about 30%. So if you went inverted and did a climb out then the gov will shut off and you wont be happy.
If you mean a straight line like 75,75,75,75 then while this will work if the gov ever shots off (e.g. lost magnets or whatever reason) then you might over rev and blow you engine or be so low on throttle (depending on the value of your flat line) you cant bring it in. Thus you should have something of a V curve and a good start is 100,50,100. Then run with the gov off and tune that curve getting it somewhat close so you dont over rev just trying to bring it back down to land.
Now I know a lot of people that DONT do that and the thinking is if the gov fails just hit hold and auto in. I am in the camp that you should get the curve close to right rather than auto in if it fails.
