I saw this picture of a Logo 5003D from the JAX fun fly and wondered if anybody knows who makes the aluminum tail case. It would be nice to start seeing some upgraded parts in aluminum like the blade grips for starters - especially with 550mm spinning around 2400.
Here is the gallery with other pictures of Logo near the bottom of page 8.

IMO mikado parts just dont need to be upgraded. I think there is a large part of many stock helis which are underbuilt.......making an upgrade market for the manufacturer. Mikado dont do this, their plastic parts are such high quality, it just isnt neccissary to use anything else. Ralph is one of the very best heli designers, if not the best, if its good enough for him, and pilots like Daniel Jetschin and Andy Rummer, it will do for us simpletons :thumbs-up2:
That saying, i do like the carbon mikado tail case. comes standard on the L6003D but not the L5003D, i only like it cos i can tension the belt from the rear, makes life much easier

I agree that the top quality is what most people talk about with the Mikado parts but my concern is still with plastic grips spinning 550mm blades at 2400+ RPM. There have been a few threads recently about the Trex600e plastic grips failing so I'm just talking about plastic parts in general. Its possible to weaken a plastic grip in the case of a crash more than with an aluminum one.
i will keep you updated Bruce, i have crashed my 500 at least 6 or 7 times, and no doubt i will carry on doing so.....still on the original blade grips. i will tell you if they fail :YeaBaby:

Another thing to consider is the Mikado plastic is tons stronger and beafier than the T-rex600 stuff. Not bashing the rex but it is an honest fact.

That tailcase looks like one from a Swift.

That is good field testing info to know. At this stage I won't worry based on the reputation of Mikado parts.

The grips on the Logo's are very stout, thick in all the right places.

If this is the part you see on that Logo 500 then it is indeed a Swift up-grade tail block.

Thanks! That looks like the part.

I notice that a lot of people on this board are not aware of the enormous variety in plastics.
I've mentioned this before in other threads..
There are a lot of basic and industrial compound plastics that easily can be used as a replacement for aluminium if designed in a proper way.
You can see the beefier design, it's not always necessary to make it beefier btw..
Sometimes you make it thicker in some places to improve the flow in a injection mould, not specifically for strength.
It's a game of many factors, but it starts with using the right materials for your design, or adapt the design properly to the material properties.
Nowadays we have nice software to make very detailed strength calculations on any 3D form made out of plastic, Rapid prototyping etc.etc.
The plastics industry is at a very advanced level compared to other industries IMO.
Still it's hard for a novice to see the difference and therefore easy to say plastic is weaker than aluminium, technically seen a very old-fashioned thought...

I think many people have been hearing about the new plastics (polymer based) that are stronger than steel but that doesn't mean all the helicopter parts manufacturers are using this new material in all cases. Just look at the Align plastic grips that have been failing on the T600e. The reputation of the Mikado plastic parts is higher than Align's so they have an advantage there and maybe there is no reason to upgrade. Others just want to upgrade to Al because of the bling factor.

Hohoho....that was not my intention at all, sorry for that
Just tried to make clear that modern plastics can be a fantastic material to use in High performance RC heli's.
Mikado shows that by making designs in plastic.
That are very hard to beat/improve in important areas( weight and strength) using CF plates/bolts constructions.
