View Full Version : Rex owner, any point to Mini Titan?

Just wanted to get your thoughts on this. I've got a couple of very well-abused "450" sized helicopters and was thinking of adding a Mini Titan to the stable, but I'm wondering if there's really any point to it. The reason I'm even considering another heli this size is because I've managed to accumulate quite a collection of 3s lipo's, and invariably I'll dork up my birds on their first packs and wind up having a bunch of fully charged batteries that now need to be discharged. I suppose I could just pick up another Rex, but I think I'd like to try something else. (And I really like the Mini's canopy:YeaBaby:)
Parts availability is a non-issue since I've got to order everything online anyway, although I won't be able to use Ready Heli. :bawl
So what are your thoughts? Will I be disappointed coming from a Rex? Are parts/maintenance costs roughly the same?
One last thing-apparently there's an SE version due out soon. Would it make sense to hold off 'til that's available?

Thanks gents!

I like the MT better than the Trex's I had. Its as stable with full throws and no paddle weights as my trex was with paddle weights installed.

I've never seen anything about an SE coming out other than people asking if there will be one. Did I miss something?

Weird... I edited my post earlier after I finished the new posts in that thread and it never took.

Love my MT! Can't beat the price of the kit w/ ESC and motor, but if you think you'll be adding the metal bits, it would probably be better to wait on the SE. Flies perfect on all plastic goods, though. Just factor in a set of E-Sky CF blades ($27 from HD) to replace the crappy woodies.

It might be difficult for me to leave it stock as I suffer from Hop-up-ikans disease. How does the stock head hold up in a crash? I assume you'd need the usual bits, (main & spindle, blades) but does the rest hold up well? A few other questions come to mind:

Any issues with the stock esc and motor? Keep in mind I'm a stick bangin' monkey who'll never have 1/24599477604 the skills of a Chi or Szabo.

Is there any place to mount the gyro other than on TOP of the boom block?

The Rex belt should come with a "use by" date it destructs so easily, yet my cheapo MX400 has never eaten a belt once. How's the belt on the MIni T? (sounds like a Losi product)

Speaking of the tail, what servo are you guys using? Looks like cyclic can use hs65's, will the tail mount accommodate a 9650?

Lastly, does the kit go together like it should, or does bit A need to be filed to fit into part C, and pieces X, W, and M should just be tossed and replaced with brand K parts, etc etc.

Again, thanks for your input!

The MT is very easy to work on and has an open structure with easy access everywhere.

s9650 on tail is a good fit. The gyro, in my case Gy-401 is inside the body.
Just show it up the helicopters a** and you're good

Everything on mine fitted perfectly,
was very impressed how well it's produced.
Only thing I had to do was some modding to get the HS65MG's in http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=37026 .

I'm very happy with the stock motor/ESC on 3s setup - just don't use cheap batts. I have a dynam 15C (that obviously performs below that level) that doesn't perform very well, but my Electrifly 20C and TP 15C do great. Also, ditch the stock blades - I observed a 5A average power draw decrease simply by switching to E-Sky carbons.

Here is my MT on stock motor/ESC, 3154 on the tail, and Logictech 2100T. Using JR S-241 on swash (you'll need different ball links for this as the holes in servo arms are too large for the packaged TT screws). The Futaba servo arms are just right for them, though. I think for easiest build going full Futaba servos is the best bet as I think Hitecs require slight mod to servo mounts.

I think I was using Align pro woodies in the vid.

which futaba servo do u recommend for use with the mini titan?

^^That's a good question. Futaba's got so many micro servos out lately it makes my head spin.

Thank you gents for all of your help and insight. I'm still on the fence, (and the upcoming T500 isn't making this any easier) but it's great to get intelligent, thoughtful responses without the usual brand bashing.
There's probably a Mini in my future, the question is.....

When?:smokin:

BTW-Thanks for the vid, TS! 'Course, seeing you fly reminds me of just how badly I suck!

No prob, Warp. Thanks for the kind words on the flying.

Just gave some futaba servos a quick look. The S3107 has the same torque rating as the JR's I use on the swash, but is a touch faster:

I'm sure anything in that range will be fine.
