Putting the Ion X (2) design next to MXR 600E shows that the MXR has a more progressive design. Is it possible to modify the MXR 600E to something of the Ion size?
1. The tail boom could be from the 33" stock being trimmed to appropriate length, belt from other kits, e.g. Hirobo or Raptor 90.
2. Install appropriate electric motor for 690 blade
3. Modify the battery compartment pieces and landing gear
4. Install all the proper equipment, i.e. battery, esc's
What other modifications should be required for the MXR to withstand the abuse of 690 size blade?
Any thoughts on this?

Eric Larson and Bert Kamerer did this last year and they look like they were haveing a great time with it. I do not think it is out of the question at all.

I'm sure that the Razor would make a great 700mm conversion based on what you've outlined. With an Actro 32-3 and PowerJazz esc on 12s 5000 packs, geared to something like 11.5:1, this would be one nice heli.
My main concern would be running the ~100mm longer belt drive within the already small dia MA boom. This might cause a little belt slapping to happen.
The Razor battery compartment is a bit small for the 12s sized batteries (5000's). Maybe the frames can be widened a bit with spacers.
The Razor blade grips would need to be bored out to 5mm for 690-710mm blades, or replaced with larger MA stratus grips.
Need a bit longer stratus flybar.
Ditch the Razor canopy and fit an Ion-x one on. Otherwise it really will look like a sperm-germ.

Too funny !!
Id say it would be even better with shaft driven tail.

Will the Ion-X canopy fit the Razor Nitro?
Will the Ion-X canopy fit the Razor Nitro?
With a few mods the Ion-x canopy will fit either Razor, and it is lighter than the CF Razor canopy as well. The Trex600 canopy can also be made to fit ok and is also lighter/cheaper (and better looking imop). Do a few searches and you will see a few guys who have fitted these canopy's on ok during the great Razor canopy shortage of early 2007. The nitro one just needs a bit more work to clear that thing on the end of the dirty, smelly motor!

Any field rep from MA chipping in? My concern is more on the safety side, will the Razor mechanics be able to withstand the 90 size abuse? The tube conversion is even better, but this will necesitate more modifications (unless MA is releasing the tube version of Razor, which could be ...... anytime? )

i did communicate with Eric Larson some time ago in regard to swinging the larger blades and he said they were having a vibration problem that they never could solve. if you look at the stiffness of the frame above the main plate there is some flex and i think that may be why they were having a problem. i was going to go to 680's and 12s and have designed a stiffener for the frame that added a third bearing and tied everything together but i havent machined it yet. as soon as my 10s packs are used up i'll probably go to 12s and maybe a 640 blade with the stiffener installed.

Thanks for that info Mate. Sounds like it's something that MA should be addressing on the stock Razors as well. Once you machine and test this mod please show us a few pics. Thanks again.
Best cheers,
