Anyone else using the high voltage sport BEC to power servos and eliminate the battery. I installed it on my Hurry and it did not work as shown in the wiring diagram. The wiring diagram showed the ESC hooked up to the BEC. The servos worked but the ESC did not initialize and power the motor. So, I ran the esc directly to the receiver and the sport BEC to the Battery terminal of the receiver and it seems to work ok. Any of you experts see pitfalls in this setup. Thanks.

I'm no expert, but I have been running my Hurry wired the same way for 20 flights now with no problems. I assume you are using the stock esc that came with the Hurry. I ran into the same problem. After reading for awhile I came to the conclusion that the esc does not have a built in BEC, so it must get its power from the receiver. When you wire the Sport BEC as per their instructions it stops the power from the receiver. So I just ran the ESC to the receiver and put the connector from the Sport BEC to the receiver's battery port and it worked. As I understand it the Sport BEC is designed to cancel out the built in BEC from the ESC without removing or cutting the red wire from the ESC control cable, if that is correct, then that would explain why it won't work with the stock ESC. Anyways that’s what I've found, hope it helps. Maybe someone else will let us know if I have missed anything.

Cobra you have figured it out. The pass-through wiring approach with the D.E. ParkBEC and SportBEC is designed to simplify using the BEC with an ESC that has a built-in BEC. When used with an ESC that does NOT have a built-in BEC the ESC has to get power from the Rx, exactly as you surmised, and hence the correct installation is ESC->Rx-Throttle, BEC->Rx-Batt (or unused channel).

Output current of VHVBEC is just 2.5A. Is it enough to power up all digital servos and gyro in Hurricane

THXWhy not going with the SportBec at 3.5A?

I now have run about six packs using the Sport BEC and am very pleased. Sure beats pulling and charging the servo battery that was only good for about three flights.

SportBEC is rated at 3.5A for up to 8s. Are you planning to go above 8s lipo ? If so, and you want more than 2.5A, you could consider a Hercules HC BEC (10s/5A) from WesternRobotics: http://www.western-robotics.com/herculesHC.html

I am running a SportBEC since my Castle was DOA. I will probably go back to the Castle when the new one arrives.

I like it.

But I want to hold it for another aircraft. :) And I will probably buy a couple more.

I want to give the new Castle a try. If it works, the package ia little easier to stuff into places.
