Don't expect 'massiv 3dz' (windy and 1st FF) and video (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=mercuriell&filename=L6001stFF.wmv) a bit ordinary (wife cameraperson with dull cloudy sky) but at least it's small (5MB wmv) - not entirely uneventful - prize to the 1st person with correct diagnosis of the flight terminating problem !!
FDR shows 1240mAh for 3 mins of gentle flight so I guess we're looking at 5:30 from a 3300 pack or rather less for ball-breaking 3Dz.

Sounds like the pinion let loose.

On the right track but not quite - my Loctit'ing not that bad! :) The pics here tell the story - did have just a smidgeon of backlash (Mikado say none but other posts suggested this good idea). Must be the quickest gear to change - 5 mins including adjusting back to NO backlash and Loctiting.

You are running a 800kv on 10s, i was thinkng to try your motor Z50-800 with my 8s 4300 packs from my selling Trex600CF. I have on trex600 1910H/1Y motor that is 1050kv.
So if your setup is successfull i think that also my future Logo6003d v-stabi on 8s and 1910H/1Y will work.
Which pinion do you use with yor config? 13T?
Interesting will be if you can put your 1910H on Logo600 and give it a try on your 8s packs, if you can, so all my dubts will be solved...
Let me know

Are you sure your motor didn't move a bit during the loop?

Sorry about the kink.... Also thanks for trying the backlash. I think the poster suggested this due to a hot pinion. Are you using silicone spray on it? MrMel says it's the hot ticket to cooler pinion temps.

Hey John, thanks for the Vid, but could you please clarify one thing. What is that "thing" above the main blade grips?
Thanks.

Nope - motor absolutely solid on post mortem and all bolts and pinion firmly in place.

Thats why I tried a bit of backlash - maybe this is not a good idea on smaller pinions on higher kV motors - yes I had sprayed silicone on pre flight!

Not sure what you're referring to here Matt - not the flybar cage ?- maybe my wife's head !

I think he's referring to that thing with those paddle things on it

Oh the paddle thingy - yeah I think thats to keep the engine cool! ;)

So it doesn't look like you took too much gear off. Perhaps too much backlash? My (limited) experience has been:
- no backlash - lose headspeed, and get a HOT pinion
- tiny tiny backlash - better headspeed and cool pinion
I haven't yet tried the silicone oil on it.
Now, I should say, the backlash I had set was tiny. In fact, in one spot, I really couldn't feel any, but in most others I could feel a tiny tiny amount. In fact, you can see it by looking underneath.
My first thought is that if my setup had sheared the main gear, I'd have lost most of the whole teeth involved.
Sorry to have you start off bad, though!

Ahhhh, okie dokie thanks for clearing that up. But I thought this was an electric ? Whats an engine gotta do with it?
aww man now you got me confused again. (which ain't though to do) :arggg:

Matty, in the old days before computers :lol:toy helicopters used a mechanical device called a flybar to make flying managable. It used lots of power from the motor to calm the beast. :mad:These days we just take for granted the electronic wizardry of Vbar as part of our normal flying,:smokin: but it wasnt always so.
Thats todays history lesson for you:wink::wink::wink:

Oh the pains, well at least you guys can all educate me now how to do this Vbar thingy you speak of. I am ready for electronics after only 3 hrs at my bench. :D

It never ceases to amaze me at how clever the New Gen design is. Of all the machines i have assembled these have been the quickest. Less parts and more clever.
Now we just need to make the Vbar simpler for folk like me.

The mikado vbar is already simple. A friend has got his logo5003D ready to fly from the box in only one day.
The v-stabi software is simple and the default settings are already a good point to start. After some flights you can work on software fine tuning to make heli as your flying style.
Now i'm quite ready to buy a logo600 vbar... :)

I just wish they'd take every changeable value in the software and write up a good description of what it does, what increasing it does, what decreasing it does, and when you'd use it. That, plus some good, stable, starting numbers would have saved me an hour or two fiddling.
Even the "experts" that I know of have said they don't know what some of the settings really do.

I will be working on it as fast as I can. Unfortunately I have gone back to school to re-edumacate myself so that is taking up a lot of time.
I hope in the next few weeks I will be be able to bring some things to the table. Well actually I should have a lot, I'm going to be doing some motor testing shortly, so things are going to get real interesting in the next month or so.
Speaking of which, so what is the motor of choice here and on other forums ? I need a base reference model.

I hovered my 600 3D VBar on a 6S battery, the cyclic response was terrible due to the very low rotor speed. Confirmed all is working and in trim. 10S batteries will be here tommorrow.

Glad it went well John, i am only one more programming session behind you. I just need to reconfirm the tail directions and a final overview then off to fly.
