hi all, just thought id post this for anyone who might be interested.
i have an ep100 in the plastic frame, while i like the pro version,i dont like the frame design nearly as well as i like the plastics logo'ish look.
the big downfall of the plastic is its softness and tiny tiny servo options,so in an effort to have what i want,i am trying to make my own frame out of g10.
where i am at so far is i have made the templates for the frame and have machined the bearing blocks and tailblock.the templates have been seperated into their respective sections, and i have made the servo cutouts big enough to mount jr185's or futaba 3154's.while i know i cant match the plastics weight of 19g,i am hoping to best the pros 29g weight.
here are some pics i took as i go.

new update on project g10 :)
its finally starting to come together, and is looking like a heli again.it has been so slow due to work and the fact that i am having to cut and hand file the g10 parts to the shapes i need and desire.so far if i add all the frame parts to my scale + a few extra bits to simulate unforseen add ons.im at 23 grams for the frame.im hoping to come in between 22 and 25 grams.once im done fitting the 2 im doing, ill send the 2nd out to the person i contacted to try and help me test it out.if we both decide it is a winner(or loser)ill take mine apart and scan each part with dimensions and a brief how to,its not hard just takes patience.

update
i finished the battery tray.and have it mounted.all i have left is to make is the motor mount esc tray.and put on the front legs and curving nose braces.im impressed the bolt nut method of attachment works well and is strong as all get out.hmmm maybe at this rate it will be ready to fly this weekend. http://static.rcgroups.com/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif

ok i have made the motor mount plate, and the side plates.i will now start securing it all together and do final shaping and sanding.the rear rollers are in place.ill be doing any weight reduction after final shaping.for anyone interested that is a 1320 tp pack sitting between the frame rails.

well its as finished as im going to make it:lol:
im actually very satisfied, the frame is as rigid as any as ive ever seen.all up weight is 26 grams,so i am very happy with it,considering that i used 1.6mm g10.i believe i could have matched the plastic frame using 1mm with the same rigidity.
i have put the heli together on the scale in 3 diff battery conditions.
1.tp1320 3s
2.eflite 800 3s
3.ELE 800 2s
servos are the new jr s185's at 6 grams.they are blistering fast and center well.
add 7 grams to the weights as i forgot to add 1 servo to the scale, plus that would add in 3 screws and the missing tie wraps of a fully complete bird.
ive seen alot of veiws so please add your thoughts about this little project, good or bad, also is anyone interested at all in a downloadable template of the part,to make their own.

thanks Adam for the compliment,as soon as I make some adjustments to make it easier to use the main gear with ar bearing ill post the scans of it for you.As it is right now it can be easily flown with the solid gear, but the ar gear needs modification to fit. While it doesnt hurt the ar gear,I think it would be better to be just a direct fit.
Per your pm,G10 is a very strong fiberglass, with the plus of not conducting static like the carbon frames do.

ive been very busy this month. The wife is gone for a month and my 2 teenagers have taken all my time with the holidays and such.yes ill soon be posting templates,I have just been making minor changes where needed in order to fit the autorotation gear without modding the gear.as is the non auto fits perfectly, but the ar is slightly longer. Now that the holidays are over ill try and get them up in a week or so,thanks for being patient to anyone who wanted them.

Dude,
Freaking awesome work! I am very impressed!
I too, would like to follow you in this adventure. I now have a T-Rex 450, I'd like to compliment this with a 100 of some sort, but not a toy.
Would you be so kind as to start a GAUI 100 thread? I think it could be great. Many people are interested. I can't wait to hear your flight test report!
Everyone buys an RTF or a 90% kit. You are one of the few that experiments, keep it up and have fun.
You have to name this heli, I suggest *your-name-100*
Sell the plans, I'll buy a set!
