Anybody out there field charging their duralites? I've got a 115V outlet in my car. Can I plug my duralite 3+1 charger there and go for it? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, you can but you don't have to use the durilite charger (only) to charge them.
I've charged with my Triton and the Hobbico for Li-Ions.

The Durilite 3+1 comes with the 12v clips, usually, and the 115v adapter is for home use. Just use the 12v from the vehicle battery.

Remember a battery is a battery. Precaution and watching them like your kids (check for fevers) will keep you from having problems. ;)

Nolan,

WHat setting are you using on the Triton to charge the duralites?
Which jack do you use? Black or Yellow.
Do you connect the pack directly to the chargers or go though the charge jack?

Thanks.

You can hook your 3+1 charger to a 12 volt source also and charge your batteries.

I know there is people that use other chargers than the Duralite to charge there Duralite batteries. Just understand that Duralite does not honor the warranty if a charger other the Duralite one is used.

Charge the Duralite batteries thru the yellow plug charge cord no matter which charger you use. The charge safe circuit is located on this lead and that is what protects the batteries from abuse while being charged.

Just curious: Why would you need to charge at the field? I know I can get more than enough flights out a fully charged pack to fly all I want in a day.

David,

I try to fly a gallon a day on weekends in my Rappy 50. If you do the math that's about 20+ flights. So when the battery hits 6.9 it needs a charge. Since the 3+1 is a trickle, it takes a bit to get the battery up to charge again.

I was just curious about the Trition.

I do carry a spare 4000Mah pack with me as well as a Rappy 90. So iI can almost fly a whole weekend without needing to charge up. Except for the Transmitter but I have spare packs for that too!

Ok so it's overkill. I just hate having to charge at the field.

Frank,
The Duralite charger charges at 400 mah, not exactly a trickle charge. For the 4000 mah pack that is C/10 rate. That is the rate that allows the batteries to charge best.

When using a charger other than the Duralite, you can not have the charge rate too high or the charge safe circuit will not allow the battery to be charged. I may be wrong, but I think about 1 amp is all the charge safe circuit will allow max .

David,

Thanks for the information. I was really just interested in faster charging but like I said, I have enough capacity to cover almost all my needs. And there is alway overnight to recharge the beasties.

Thanks again.
