Hey guys. First post here. Was referred here by some very fine people I meet at the local field yesterday. I have a cx2 and would like better batteries. I know nothing about lipos really. I have been reading how to charge them correctly, take care of them,, break in, etc Im looking at the Duralite #EVO1200-2s1p.
To me the specs look the same but then again I may be way wrong. Anyway, I appreciate the input.

Not even close to the same specs. The E-Flite Lipo is crap, its a 8C battery IE it puts out a max of 6.4 amps continuous. Easy battery to destroy, overdischarge or otherwise cause it harm. They get about 20 cycles on them and they only hold 1/2 the charge they used to.
A good LiPo ( EVO, THunder Power, etc) in the 800mah range can put out 12 amps continuous, more than the cx is going to ever ask for. Leaves you with a good reserve of power for those times when you need it.
A good LiPo battery will be night and day difference.

Hey Sinist3r, Welcome to the freak!
Carlo the Wonder Frog is right on, LiPo batteries are a 'get what you pay for' product. The specs may seem the same, but they may be a bit, ahem, optimistic.
See ya around.

Hey Thanks for the Welcome Gimbal. Carlo, its nice to see someone from my neck of the woods. I get to come home at xmas to see the folks.
I always confuse myself when trying to ask a question in my head and it never comes out right or somewhat different where the point is missed. Let me try again. I want to upgrade batteries. I know eflites are junk. My question is will the EVO battery that I posted above work in the heli and not blow my electronics. Im not sure what all I have to look at. It puts out 7.2v just like the stock one, its higher MAH just means it should hold charge longer, and the C rating is more power. Im probably overlooking something but I dont know being I am new to the whole LIPO thing.
OH yeah, Gimabl Lock, if you happen to read this again, did you get your charger from tower, or horrizon? I guess it could be more then those 2 places but being they are probably the most popular. Does the MFG sell direct?
Thanks again guys for helping a newbie.

Hey Dude, we all start somewhere, and I'm real good at asking silly questions meself!
You're right, as long as you keep the cell count the same -2S- , which will hold the voltage at the specified 7.2V, there will be no damage to the electronics in your CX2.
What you don't want to do is put a 4s (4 cells in series/ 14V Lipo in the bird. Not that you would, just illustrating). The mAh rating is an expression of the power stored in the pack, and the C rating states the safe amperage draw range for the pack. By selecting a pack with a C rating as high as practicable, the battery chemistry is stressed less per flight.
I've never flown a CX2, but I can tell you is a very real difference in performance between junky Align 6s packs and 6s Flightpower EVO's.
I got my charger from espritmodel.com in Florida, which happens to be my preferred online shop.

will this help constantly holding the tail too? (better battery)
seems upon first flight I am constantly holding or adjust sub trim to right rudder and as the battery wears down I am constantly holding it to the left and everything inbetween as it does weakin

Yes, a good Lipo will hold its voltage better and therefore the tail will tend to stay centered for a longer period of time. Mind you it will still start to creep as the voltage of the pack gets lower, but not as fast as a cheap LiPo.
As far as using a 1200 Mah evo pack vs the stock 800Mah e-flite pack. Check the weight of that battery and also the dimensions, it may be too heavy or not fit in the stock location. I prefer the Thunder Power 910 mah 2 cell, it doesn't fit like the stock pack so it gets taped to the bottom. but its such a good Battery that I don't mind. come to think of it unless the weight of the new battery is 3 times the weight of the stock one, you should be ok. I once connected my wireless camera to my CX2 and flew for about 10 minutes with not much problem except dull feeling controls due to the weight.

Well that is part of the problem. the evo is 72g's The Thunder Tiger is less I know. Cant remember off hand. I plan on putting all the xtreme upgrades and then do a battery mod to use industrial velcro to hold it on. Still not sure if all that weight is good though. Maybe the thunder tiger is a better fit for this application.

Sounds good. I was wanting a Higher Mah and C rating for longer run times and a little more power. I havent done much this last week. Flew a few times thursday as it was calm enough. Look forward to hearing what you come up with.
XUSHobbies.com I just got a pair of there 900's and they fit fine and have a little more staying power and I'm in kuntucky and there in California and it took just three days to have them at the front door also the price is right and you can charge with the stock charger.

I got my DN's from XUSHobbies as well, but I was not happy with their customer service.
For one thing, they allowed me to order the packs when they were out of stock without telling me about it. I had to e-mail them to find that out when I noticed that they had not shipped out after 4 days. It took me 2 weeks to get my packs. I know that others may have had positive experiences from them, but I personally will never order from them again.

Hey Bry that link is no good, I found it at http://shop.boomtownhobbies.com/main.sc
Thanks for that info though very usefull, I was going to ask about batteries for cp pro and I see the DN on their site although they are currently out of stock. I will look for them as well though as I am flying and getting more and more comfy with it.
they show 'hard' blades for blade grips, do you have any experience with them? I bought the metal blue blade grips blades are flimsy can barely keep in air let alone fly. I said I was done with useless upgrades but someone said it was cause the metal ones were too heave so I ordered the plastic version, still waiting their arrival.

Anyone tried these batts???

I'm talking about the one that can charge on the E Flight charger...
Would the flight times be substantially better?

I use a 8 month old kokam battery I got at a sidewalk sale for $5, its a 2 cell 650mah. Seems to work better than my E-Flite one that crapped out on me

file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/tkurilo/Desktop/cx2%20batt2.JPGPaired up with the extreme 180 motors, I am really liking the Thunder Power 910 batteries. Here is how I hold them in... I wrap a strip if velcro completely around the frame of the heli squeezing it between the motors and the main shaft support. then I cross wrap it around the battery where I have placed a small strip of velcro on the battery.
Because the velcro wraps around the frame and battery mount, I permanently removed the 4 screws holding the battery mount to the frame making it quick and easy to gain access to the shafts. You can see some white foam I placed over where the screws were to keep the wider batteries in place.

Hey guys FlightPower has an EvoLite 2s 800 BladeUpgrade pack just for the CX's. It even come with the OEM plugs so you dont have to do any soldering and can use the stock charger if you need to. The good thing is its roughly $5 cheaper than the E flight battery!

Anywhere does this evolite pack is in stock? I've looked at my usual places and they all have the version without the JST connector... not a huge problem but even easier to order the right one than fiddle with connectors :)

I can't find a link to that pack. Anyone know what the "C" rating is? I won't buy less than 15C now. Stock packs and low-power packs might be okay for a perfectly stock Heli, but not for my heavier birds.
