I recently bought a vision peak ultra charger and an Equinox balancer, stock charger takes way more than an hour. Anyways this is my question.
Am I being too anal?
I charge with the balancer attached, after charging run the balancer by itself, fly and balance again before charging with the balancer....
Is that too much and not needed or a good practice?

Thats too anal. just charge it up and then balance it one time, then go a couple of cycles before you balance again. Its not really necessary to balance each pack 2 or 3 times before it is flown, lotta wasted time and effort for nothing.

Remember we used to fly lipo's without balancers or balance chargers and they worked just fine. Balancers do extend the life, but only if the cells are out of balance. Really the packs only need to be balanced probably once every few flights unless they have a tendency to go out of balance quickly.
