has anyone heard anything about the one-way bearing in the main gear failing on the 600N, someone told me to upgrade it before flying it,

thats the common word on the street, However we've proven that if you soak the bearing in transmission fluid for a couple hours while you build the heli, you won't have a problem with it as is for a long time.

Does it matter what type of Trans. fluid you use? eg. ATF, Dexron II or manualTF

Align has a new gear case with owb and shaft that is supposedly supposed to help with the locking problem. Mine locked up after about the 5th gallon. I cleaned it and tri-flowed it and it was good for about 3 flights or so and now it's locked again. I think I'll be placing an order soon...

the best type is probably the type you have on hand. :)

What happens when it locks up when your flying?
Will you be able to auto or will you just crash!

on a nitro, the clutch will free-wheel, you will have more drag, however you will not be carrying the engine along, on the E's you WILL be driving the motor with the rotor disk, seriously tapping power, and autos will be ugly if not terminal.

wayne's right , on the nitro machines, if the one way locks up , you wil have a slight bit more drag but not to the point that it will cause you to crash , you will be able to auto just fine, you may not even notice it in flight. you may have to spin the main gear to check.
On E Heli's, if the one way locks up , the main gear has to drive the electric engine on an auto , severely reducing your headspeed , and possibly causing a crash if your auto isn't perfect.

I must say that I never have any one way lock on my 600 electronic after using red ATF (left over from my Mercedes, cheap $8 a bottle)
Then I bought my 600N 2 weeks ago and thought that the 1 way is not an isse as mine should be a new kit version. Then I was suprised that the 1 way locked after 6 flight with quite hard 3D. I inspect the 1 way and found the plastic case inside the 1 way somehow deformed slightly and the metal roller cannot perfectly return to the plastic case. This is the exact reason for the locking. The grease is too thick to allow the roller go back to the plastic case.
I end up cure the problem by using the ATF I used before. As expected, there is no more 1 way locking after 2 galloons.

just out of curiosity, if the engine is being driven by the blades on an electric, won't it be generating a reverse current? (kinda like a dynamo)
could that be bad for the electronics like the RX???
Just a thought!!

1) The clutch on a nitro may not release until the headspeed is down low enough for the clutch to disengage. The rotor keeps the clutch spinning, which in turn keeps it locked down, which in turn keeps the engine turning, unless when your engine quits the clutch slips enough to disengage, an auto will be impossible.
2) If your fan backs off on the crankshaft and your one way is locked, you will be gaurenteed to be spinning the engine using rotor RPM and an auto will be impossible.
Don't assume you can ignore a locked one way on a nitro.
