After playing with the esc, I took the Skyshark outside and maidened it. It was breezy, but it flew very well. I needed to do some elevation link adjustment, I was maxed on trim and it was still wanting to drift backwards. Fixed that. Even in the wind it hovered perfectly, very easy to control. I needed to change the expo, it was a bit dead around center. I didn't need to put in -20, but I figured better safe than sorry. I kicked it to -15, I'll try it again tomorrow. That should give it the feel I want. Otherwise, it seemed very locked in. I am pleased so far..

Try it with a Scorpion motor Scott sells, it won't be dead with that around mid-stick!!!

Quick Question from a Heli-noob

I need to get "training gear" for my Diablo (ok, hit me with the jokes about needing
"balls" to fly this thing)

Does anyone make these for a 450(325) size heli ? All I seem to be finding are smaller
sets made for Blade/Honey Bee/E-flight sized birds....

Thanks in advance

Larry

You might be better off just getting some wooden dowels and ping-pong balls. That way you can make them as big as you want.

Don't think it hasn't crossed my mind, but I don't see a need yet. My abilities have not surpassed the motor I have right now, but then again, whats wrong with more power? :)

One other question for the fellow Rct-450 owners. Has anyone else had any problems fitting their fiberglass canopy? My plastic one fits great after trimming, but the fiberglass one doesn't fit. The ele/ail servos splay the canopy out so that the grommets won't stay on the pegs, they just pop off. Maybe mine is an anomaly.

Thanks Jason,

I was thinking along those same lines...only, with carbon fiber rods instead of
wooden dowels (to save weight) I was just hoping there was a manufacturer out
there producing them in the larger size.

Both canopies fit well on my Diablo. I do not know if this makes a difference, but I am using DS285 servos.

My plastic, and fiberglass canopies both fit perfect. Put the canopy on the bottome part of heli first.

I agree except that it would be better to use CF rods. They can be thinner and they'll flex.

WellGrounded, Try the Heli-Max HMXE9552 Training Gear, AXE CP. I'm using it on my Rex 450 and works great. I'll take a pic and post it for you. Purchased it at my LHS for 21.49. On another note, saw the Diablo on ******'s Logictech setup video and all I cay is WOW!!! Best Regards, Bill

Flex ain't good in my experience. Also don't make them larger then 80% of the main rotor span. If you make it larger it could vibrate into the mainblades.

Well, breakage is worse. I wouldn't trust wooden dowels not to break, unless they were large enough that they'd affect aerodynamics, which also ain't good.

If your flying safely I don't see how you could break them. Beginners aren't all the same though so others might land far too hard anyway.

I'll take a look at those...WoW was the first word out on my mouth when I opened
the aluminum case (Ok, first one I can repeat in mixed company) :YeaBaby:

Good info Laurens, thank you

Trust me, I CAN break anything given enough time ;)

Hi Larry - Here's a pic of the Heli-Max Training Gear mantioned earlier. CF rods with styrofoam "balls" held in place with washers and fuel tubing - uses plastic clips to attach to the skids. Very light weight, on and off in a flash, great shock absorption (personnally tested that.) The balls roll so you can get the heli light on the skids and fly it place before pulling that last bit of pitch to lift.

Best of Luck,
Bill

Yep... FedEx REALLY screwed up this time. One way or another, we will get you and Patrick squared away and FedEx will have to make good on this.

Happy New Years, Laurens, and everyone else at HeliFreak!

Thanks Scott and RC-TEK for the nice Carbon Fiber paddles, and blades!! Paddles are light and fast, blades are stiff, and beautifull.
