mx450 tail mod, definite improvment.

so it's known that the tail assy on the mx450xs sucks, mainly because the slider dosn't slide smoothly. this weekend i took it apart and put the dremel to it. i polished off the black oxide coating and proceded to put a mirror shine on the tailshaft. a drop of 3in1 oil and it operates very very smooth now. i also upgraded the tail servo from futaba s3107 to s3115, which has way more torque (still a cheapy of a servo, but it def improves things) and is a bit bigger/heavier. the weight gain did not however, throw off the balance. if anything it seems better now.

I didn't have any trouble with mine for over 60 flights, but heard others were. So I installed an Align AGNH1141 slider assembly. It has dual driver pins to cure any bind and hinged ball link arms to allow full travel without binding or flexing the slider arm.
All a direct fit, no mods needed. I have about 1/32 inch additional travel in each direction with it. Not really needed, at 5:1 reduction it doesn't take much deflection except in really wild moves.

What dremel tools did you use to buff/polish the slider?

just a white cloth buffing wheel with the red buffing paste that comes with the kit. nothing too fancy but it works wonders.
