Send it to hobby services. I had a 9254 fixed because it burnt up or some crap but it was under warranty so they sent me a NIB one. :D And I had new leads and a new case put on my 401 cuzz it was all scratched up and all thata nd my leads had knicks from some wire crap i put on them. Now they have braided sleeving on them. Cost me about 30 bucks for parts and labor. Not bad IMO.

Hi Chris, the 9253 went off to Futaba Hobby Services yesterday via Priority Mail. If I get it fixed for $30 I will be happy. I will give Futaba the kudo's if they take care of their product. I know Horizon takes care of JR stuff. They do a great job with service. This is my first experience with Futaba.

It took a week or two before I got it back but I was happy to see new stuff. :)

I sent two 9202's in last year (under warranty) I was having a problem with the wires, right where they were soldered onto the board, I still think the white goop they put over the soldered connections was having some kind of reaction on the wires because the wires were a kind of black color at the end, anyways it was almost a week to the day that I got back two brand new 9202's and those are still going in my Raptor.

Hey Ray,

I just noticed that I sent my servo to the address you gave:
Futaba Service Center
1610 Interstate Drive
Champaign IL 61822

And just noticed that the Service Center reports their address as:
Futaba Service Center
3002 N. Apollo Drive, Suite #1
Champaign, IL 61822

I hope it will find it's way to the right spot !!! At least it went to the right town and Zip Code !

Heeheheee

Estimate For Repair
WORKORDER # - xxxxxxxx
Servo motor is bad. Cost to repair exceeds cost of replacement. We are able to offer a new S9253 servo for $80.00 on an exchange basis.

Repair Parts Used Item Parts Labor
Qty Item Item # Description Charge Charge
1 FUTM0223 S9253 SERVO DIGITAL HELI RUDDR 00
1 FUTM0223 S9253 SERVO DIGITAL HELI RUDDR 80.00
Totals 80.00 00 80.00
Tax 00
Shipping 7.99
Estimate Total $: 87.99

Well, I guess $80 for a new servo isn't bad, if the other can't be fixed. Dang, sure was hoping for better news than that !

Welcome to the world of Great Planes service. You think $80.00 for a new servo isn't bad. Take a look at their retail sides price.

Futaba S9253 Servo $84.89
Parts Express Shipping $3.99
Total $88.88
Now add your shipping cost to sent it to them for service. Do you still think it is a deal.

I know what you mean Paul. I'm sitting here looking at 2 149's and a 601 that is still not fixed after sending it in and getting it back "fixed". Kinda sucks. Service is really the only thing I regret about going with Futaba for helis from JR because nobody flew JR around here when I got started. My Plank radio is an 8103 and I have an R1 Surface Radio.

Hey I asked Futaba if they would replace the S9253 with the faster stronger S9254 instead and here is what they said:

Dear Sir-

Thank you for your recent e-mail. We are always happy to hear from
fellow Modelers.

We will be happy to replace your S9253 with an S9254 for the same
price.

I was pleasantly surprised. I think I will do that.... what do you guys think?

Paul, where did you get that price on the 9253? Better than what I found around.

I was going to post that you have gotten a 9254 brand new for the price of fixing your 9253. By all means get the 9254 man. The 401 and the 9254 is about the best cheapy gyro setup you can put on your heli.

Yep, Chris, I know. I already have one of the 401/9254 combos. I will probably do that. Thanks for your input.

You made the right decision in getting the 9254. I am not sure but I think the 9253 is discontinued even thou Tower has it in stock. That is why they have the reduced price on it.

Here is the 9254
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFZP1&P=0

If the service center didn't explain it. If the item is not repairable , they offer the item at 50% off the retail price, not the price it is selling for in the shops.Retail on the 9253 and 9254 is $169.95. The dealers get special discounts that allows them to sell it for less than retail.
