View Full Version : Blade CX2 mid-airs with itself

I was doing some aggressive "blade-barking" forward flight with my CX2 in the office today when the blades crashed into each other. The top blade struck the bottom blade breaking the tip off. The helicopter fell out of the air and dropped on to the skids with no other immediate or obvious damage.
I replaced the broken blade and noticed a lot of vibration. Then, I replaced its partner on the other side. While that seemed to quiet the vibes a little, I still have noticeable vibration where there wasn't any before.
Do Blade CX2 blades require balancing?
Should I try balancing these things?
Is there something else that can get bent with this type of "accident"?
While it's been fun to do tight fast coordinated turns with the CX2 and shooting across the office, the blades smacking in to each other was something that I just haven't considered. I guess that I need to "tone it down" a little.

On the plus side, I've really gotten comfortable "Nose-in" with the CX2. So much so, that I'm far more relaxed now when doing the same with the T-Rex and HBK2.

Make sure the blades are a matching set, they will have the same letter printed into the roots. you might also have an unnoticed problem with the other set of blades also.

welcome to the e-flight cx's they do that alot. i got tired of always chasing down vibs with mine and finally went with the hirobo xrb. it puts the cx's to shame in my opinion.

I got the longer outter/inner shaft upgrade, doesnt look like much but it has helped with blades hitting each other.

Hi, too bad about your clash.
It might be the flybar hitting the lower blades (it can't hit the upper).
I got fewer (zero so far) blade clashes by simply removing the flybar weights and rubber things... watch out for the hook ends. Now that you got mad skillz, you will enjoy flying without the weights.
Also, I balance my blades; it's easy to balance the stock blades, you just snap them together, balance on two edges (some use soup cans) and apply scotch tape to underside near center.
Blades from the same package are by no means reliably "matched sets"
I'm very negative on the various upgrades to the shaft length, but I haven't tired the new "xtreme" inner shaft/head with grips. The "extreme core upgrade" ended up costing me a lot of money and aggravation, overall.... some had much better luck.
if you want to fly in the wind, fire up that t-rex.
happy flying.

yeah I am tired of wasting money on 'cool' upgrades for the cx2 and them not working out. Will leave stock blades on.
Flybar adjustments - I was thinking of just moving them in a tad bit?
I do have the shorter flybar on but didnt notice much difference. So just remove the weights all together and leave the bar?
or move them in a bit at a time?

I got the vibes settled just by making sure that everything was seated right. It's flying fine now. I have found that it's a great office helicopter and it will probably stay there to keep me entertained during the workday.

Yep, CX2's are prone to blade slap when you change direction really quick at the end of a fast run. Go easy on the sticks and all will be well. I changed my links to use the second hole in the servo arms for a more resposive cyclic - which works great, but does make the blade clashing problem worse too. It is only a fun copter and maybe we are expecting a bit much from a cheap 'toy'. I forgive mine its minor transgressions cos its such fun to fly around the house and around trees etc.
