I have been getting my new Hurricane Test flown a couple of flights now and it seems to be very stable and a good flyer so far but I have noticed that the Motor is getting ver hot, so yesterday I cut the cooling holes out of the canopy to see if that would help, but I do not think it did after flying it today. So my question is can I put an external fan next to the motor to help keep air moving around it, or is this norm (high heat on this larger motor) and it will be fine. I tried to search through other forums here to see if anyone else has had that problem, but I could not find anything, so any help would be nice or anyone who can show me where I can find some info that would be great also. Thanks all who read this and can help.

I have heard that the stock motor runs hot as a norm (I am not flying it... so this is just what I have read)... but I have to wonder if it is because it is not being ran over 85% on the throttle curve.

What are you running on your throttle curve?

Brushless motors and ESCs run more efficently at 85% or higher... below that they heat up (and waste batt energy while doing it).

Heat is a direct indicator of inefficentcy and lost energy in your power system.

Old or under capacity batteries can also contribute to heat... if they are not capable in providing the amperage needed that the motor/esc are calling for. If this is true in your situation, your batteries will be getting hot also.

Hope this helps... Brent

Thank you for your input, but the batts are new, and I run a throttle curv of 0-93-100( I do have a DX6 as of now, but a DX7/ or equivalent is on the shopping list) But if heat on these are the norm then I will keep on doing what I am doing. Thanks for your input though, I appreciate people taking time to help others.

I was thinking about this some more... and I realized that I should have also mentioned that friction in your drive line can also get your motor hot.

check to make sure everything is spinning freely... and that your belt is not too tight.

I also use Tri-Flow on every thing that moves (or any light 3in1 oil)... including a dab on my ball links.

Some (including me) are even using silicon on the belt itself.

I do use 3in1 oil on all that moves, and silicon on the belt, but I will search or extra friction, and see if that would help or not, thanks for the ideas.
