View Full Version : Tough time balancing the CG on a pair of FP-3200mA/30C on XES kit

Hi,

I have a XES kit with a short tail boom conversion. My Hurricane is very nose heavy (even with the bottom pack pushed as far back as touching the frame, but could not go inside the frame because the pack is slightly wider than the frame)

I am thinking about relocating the tail servo to the tail boom to get better balance.

How do the pro balance their Hurricanes on bigger battery packs?

Thanks,

Dan, KE6D

I am also flying these packs in the XES, and I found that I needed to stack them one on top of the other - and mount them on the top batt tray... as far back to the motor as I could get them... without touching it,

The canopy does not quite fit completely down over them... it is close... and I can get the two side posts to secure... but the hole in the bottom of the canopy does not quite make it to the post (it is about 3/4 of an inch short).

This is also true when I run the FP Evolite 4250s.

I am using one of my little girls elastic hair ties to go through the hole, and then back over th post (wrapped around it a couple of times). It does not look bad - and if I didn't tell you - you would not even know it. You could use a Zip tie - but I am afraid that if I wreak it - it might pull the tie through the canopy and tear a gash in it (not that it might not be trashed anyways ;-))

The CG is not perfect - but it is close enough to fly it OK. I had a 3D guy fly it with these batts, and it didn't seem to slow him down any... he flew it through all of the 3D moves... and it did great. I am also not noticing it when I fly it - I love flying this heli!!

I had to ad two rather hefty galvanised bolts to the inside of the nose of the canopy as mine was tail heavy WITHOUT the short boom...now with it (short boom) i forgot to remove the bolts for first flight and its still perfect ;-S Very strange....I think if (when) i buy the fiberglass canopy it will be sweet without any additional weight...

As for remounting the servo i believe GAUI have actually released a set of mounts for tail servo placement...Alternatively Raptor UK Upgrades or Trex600 tail boom servo mounts would suffice or any other heli with same boom size radius for that matter :-)

Best of luck

i use the trex 600 tail servo mount and it works perfect. although i had to add a piece of packing tape to the boom to make it a little thicker. works great. i have 2 aplus 3300 20c packs and even after i moved the servo to the tail boom it was still too nose heavy. i had no idea what i was going to do but i figured it out! i am using a cc hv85 and i had it mounted up front on the gaui esc mount on the side of the frame. just for the hell of it i remounted it to the middle side of the frame and th C of G is perfect now!!

I am going to try the Hirobo Sceadu/Shuttle tail servo mount. They use the same size boom.

I noticed that if I remove the fiber glass canopy, the CG seems to be OK.

I was also thinking about asking a friend of mine who is a machinist to machine a stainless steel horizontal tail fin (about the size of the Trex-450SE v1) and replace the carbon fiber one that I currently have, but I am not thrill about adding dead weight to the heli (or plane).

Thanks,

Dan
