View Full Version : 6S is showing up a 5S. Damaged Cell?

It's prob been discussed before, but I can't find it anywhere.

I am using a FP 4900mAH 22.2V 6S.

I am very careful when it comes to charging and time my flights. (DX7) I had a fly today and timed the flight to 6min. Went home and put it on the charger. BC6, and use the FP V balancer. After dialing up the correct mAH and cell size, I pushed the enter/start button, it did its check and could only find 5 cells.

After reading threads for advice, I thought I better post rather than blow a $400 battery. Not sure how to check individual cell voltages.

Any advice would be great.

what is the voltage reading at the main leads?
It might just be a loose pin in the balancer tabs.

To read each cell...
you touch the exposed metal on the bottom side of the balancer plug with the Voltmeter probes-read two wires next to each other, then move over one wire...read that pair...each cell should read above 3.2v.......

Will invest in a Voltmeter tomorrow. So touching the balance plugs on the battery (with the Voltmeter) is safe?

joehelicopter, just so I'm clear, if I touch the 2 most left metal parts on the balance plug, it will read which cell? Do I leave the most left probe and move one probe over, or move both probes? I have never used a Voltmeter before.

Also, even when I connect the battery directly to the charger (Deans), it still reads 5S.

Cheers for the help.

make sure your 2 "probes" are not touching themself while checking voltage via the balancer lead. those pin are awfully close and you could easily touch the two probes.

That would short a cell and cause damage even in a short period.

You can either let one probe on the first pin and see voltage increase gradually while you move through pins or move both probes and see 1 cell at a time.

I your deans connector still sees the pack as being 5S, that no good signs... probably means one cell is dead or whole pack is too low :(
