Wouldn't 560mm be to long for the L500? Any modifications needed to fit the blades? Will they work for hard 3D?

The 560s Rotortechs are perfectly fine, no modifications needed at all, I run them. I do however run #3092 Extra Hard Dampers, my tr blades are 90mm MAH tr blades.

OH... BTW yes I have heard multiple reports of the Spartan Gyro being much superior to the 770 JR, 611 and Logitech.

OK, so may be I should try the DS760.

Is it true that Alan Szabo jr. is using the DS760 in his Avant Aurora?

I gave Alan one of our very first ds760’s at 3D Masters and asked him to tell me what he thinks of it. I believe that went on his Trex 600. A few months later he fitted one on his Aurora and one used one more for the Trex 500 (videos below). As of yesterday Alan is our sponsored pilot and will be flying the ds760 on all his machines.

OK, I think I will go for this gyro.

My only concern about this gyro is that it need to be plugged in the computer and get a flashing update. May be it wont work...

Mathias,
You shouldn’t look at firmware update as being an obstacle. It is a great way for us to offer new features and higher performance when other companies just move on to the next gyro model. It is also a great way for us to adapt to marker changes like introduction of new radios, servos or helicopters. Take for example update 1.03 that we just released this Sunday. It increases piro consistency and adds the 250Hz mode so we can now support all digital servos on the market.

When we ship the gyros they always have the latest firmware, but of course a gyro may be at a dealer for a few weeks and sometimes a new firmware may have been released in the meantime. In any case if you are using a Windows based PC the update is piece of cake and there is no way to trash the gyro. The firmware loader protects itself and will always be alive to have another try.

Angelos,

Do you sell the firmware cables separately? Or do they come with the gyro? I was just about to purchase the DS760 a few minutes ago but couldn't find the cable in the product list.

-AngelosYes, I think it is great that you have a cable to update the gyro so you don't need to buy a new when version 2 comes out! ;) I am just afraid it won't work. May be an error pops up and so on. I am probaly a cowardly chicken. :o

Angelos, I am curious if the cable is included as well.

Also is there any way you could post a pic of your 760 next to a Futaba 401 or a JR 770 for size reference?

To answer, the cable does not come with the gyro... I think.

Here are the specs for the 401 to compare to the DS760

GY401 - (27 x 27 x 20 mm), and weighs 0.95 oz (27 g)
DS760 - (28.4 x 28.4 x 12 mm), and weights 16g

Looks like its thinner than the 401 but just slightly larger in width and height. The specs for the JR G7703D claim dimensions of (28.5x21x9mm) and 30g but the height doesn't seem right.

The Flash-Link interface is not a simple cable. Inside the USB plug there is a circuit board that interfaces the gyro to USB. This means that they are not inexpensive enough to include one with each gyro. The cables only came in stock last week and thus most dealers will not have them yet but they are listed on Spartan Direct store.

I’ve only got a broken 401 gyro. As you can guess I don’t use them any more ;) Here is a photo.

EDIT: Ignore the above. Here is probably the correct one:

Ordered a DS760 and it should be here by Friday. Not sure what firmware will be on it but I'll get the cable when it becomes available.

Angelos, is there a way to tell what firmware is on it? Like a flashing light sequence for the major and minor number - or a sticker?

OK on another note (already got my answer about the DS760), how about some other motor choices? It looks like the Z-Power 1150KV (Z30) is not really available in the US so I'd like to get some opinions about the following motors (in order of current preference):

Hacker A40-8L 8 pole (1300KV)
Tango 45-10 (1070KV)
Neu 1910/1Y (1050KV)
Plettenberg Orbit 20-10 (1130KV)

I'm planning on running on 6S - 5000mAh with a Jazz 80-6-18 and aiming for 550-560mm blades (with flybar). Also I'll be running mod 0.7 gearing due to stripping issues with mod 0.5.

After reading Ian's comments about the A40-8L on a Jazz being high revving with a 15T (mod 0.7) I'm aiming for 13-14T.

How do the Neu or Tango perform on 6S at ~1050KV compared the Hacker at 1300KV? Is the Hacker more efficient at that KV?

The Hacker A40-8-8 is less efficient but is a very strong motor for sure. I am running that motor in mine with 560 mains and with 13 tooth, no problems and works real good on this pinion size running my idle up 2 at 77%, cheers.

What kind of flight time are you getting with the 80% discharge rule?

Bruce,

I have a very similar setup to what you are proposing - I went with the Tango 45-10 mainly because it was reccomended as the coolest running and most efficient of the few I selected from. It was also readily available.

I am only basically hovering at the moment, so absolutely no hard work on the system, but I am setting my timer to 7 mins then landing, so around 7.20, and putting back 3500 to 3800 Mah into the packs. Everything from motor to esc to batts and even pinion are all measuring in the mid to upper 80's for temp, so going very easy there.

Hope this helps,

Ant

shawn, my A40-8-8 im running 15T. Jazz 80-6- with 80% and the headspeed is a little high, so when i get it repaired, im going to try a 14T, which should per peerrrrfect (2350rpm, 550mm SAB)!

Bruce, dont waste your time with a pletty 20. get the 25-8 Heli Expert, that is one of the most awesome motors ive seen for the Rex on a EVO30 4500 6s pack, so that setup on the Logo 500 will be mental

Ian, at 930KV I'd have to push a 19T (biggest pinion made) to get 2300 RPM. That doesn't give me too much adjustment room. Wouldn't that be a lot of torque on the motor?

EDIT: My bad, I clicked on the specs for the 25-10. Do you know the KV rating for the 25-8?

EDIT2: Just found the rating at 1140KV. The only problem is it doesn't look like that motor is common in the US.

Are you happy with the Hacker A40-8-8? Or would you choose a different motor if you did it all over again?

Eyon
11-09-2007, 04:19 PM
the A40-8-8 is great, real powerful, but not as efficient as the Plet

if i were to do it again, i would go for the Pletti 25-8 Heli Expert, or the Mikado Z-Power (MIK5000).

Then again, the Hacker is awesome, so there is nothing wrong with it at all, just my altitude :D

LOL Ian, that's some big HS, I found I didn't really need it that high to be honest, and with Vbar down the road a lower HS is fine I am finding out as well. The 14T would rock though, please let us know what kind of flight times and temps etc you get with that.

I just got a reply from FXAeromodels that the Plettinberg 25-8 is backordered and he is checking on the Zpower 1150 and will let me know Monday. Since I'm stringing this out over the next couple months I can take my time finding all the right choices of components.

The Spartan DS760 came in yesterday so one piece down. Next will probably be the Logo5003D, then servos - JR8717/8900G or Jazz 80-6-18 ESC.

Which EVO30 battery will fit in the L500? The long or the "ordinary"?
