Normal mode is linear 0-100, never use it anyways other than to calibrate your throttle endpoints on your esc initially.

You could just flick straight to Idle1, and move to mid-stick to get 0 pitch, no? I can't really think of a reason you have to throttle-up in Normal...

I calibrated my ESC during setup with a linear 0->100 then switched it over to the TC settings that I mentioned previously. So far the Jazz seems to be happy with those settings and I can hear the change in RPM between each of the flight modes. With soft start on the Jazz you can just switch to a flat throttle curve like Shawn and John mention but I personally like being able to control throttle up to the mid point (just my preference). It seems the Jazz governor mode becomes enabled once the throttle becomes fixed after a short period of time (goes into feedback mode to lock the head speed). Once you change the throttle it comes out of feedback and then resumes when the throttle stabilizes again. Even with a large percentage change, the Jazz appears to provide a smooth ramp between settings and does not make a massive jump. If you were not in mode 4 (helicopter mode with governor) I'll bet the transitions would be a bit more violent. Also, make sure you do not use exponential on any of your TCs since you want a clean, flat line.

On my T450, the transitions are not nearly as smooth since I do not use governor mode. You can see and hear the helicopter jump suddenly but I spool up in normal and switch to idle 2 fairly quick and land by going to throttle hold.

I should also mention that my throttle hold (TH) pitch curves match idle 2 so when I come in for a landing there is no change in pitch when I go into TH.

I start in idle 2 and fly in idle 2 all the time, not sure why you think you can not. I use Jazz ESCs', they have the same starting speed no matter what mode you are in.

On a side note I have the new 25-08 Heli Expert on route to try on my Logo 5003D Vstabi machine, will be running it with 15 tooth and see how it compares to the 1150kv Zpower motor. I seen abit of a teaser of this motor and it looks impressive in the 5003D.

I have the 1150Zpower you suggest, on 16 tooth it yields big HS at the expense of short flight times. On the 5000mah 25C 6S1P packs I was flying 4:30 tops and using the full 80% rule with a flybared 5003D, so I went to the 15 tooth which still gives gobs of power as well and about another half to full minute of flight time...

Can't wait to hear about it. Is it really rated at 1210KV? That should give you right about 2400 HS at nominal voltage.

Hey Bruce,

Yeah, 1210kV. We get right about 2430rpm headspeed at 80% on the ESC.
Turned it down to 70% -->2350rpm pretty good now.

Wow! I just watched your videos.:WOW That is some tremendous power (and of course nice flying from both of you).

I use Jazz ESCs', they have the same starting speed no matter what mode you are in.Well, I was thinking on the Align ESC without governor. - If you start in idle 1 or 2 the heli will spin up very violent, but when I now hear about the Jazz ESC's nice softstart with governor, and soft starting no matter which flightmode you start in I can see why you was wondering.

Which TC for 2350 at 15T?

I guess I will be running the EVO30 6S 4500mAh.

Just watched your video Tom. WOW! It looked like the TicToc's was being played in fast motion!

Is it this motor you are talking about? It is kV rated for 1140, but it says Orbit 25-08...

Looking forward to hear about your experience with this motor. ;)

Thanks

Hey Mathias,

The motor we have is the 25-08 HeliExpert. It revs higher than the normal 25-08. Runs cooler and produces more torque.

we currently have 70% on the Jazz80 for 2350rpm on 6s EVO25 5000 packs with 15T pinion.
16T is a little too high for that motor. also I think with 14T and about 85% on the esc it should work really good.

Shawn moved the vids to the video section, so here is the link:

Thanks Tom and Max.

Shawn, I forgot to mention. - I was talking about the Z-Power 1150kV. Just so you know...

Yea I know no worries, I got that motor as well, it is good.
