View Full Version : Can I plug my peak charger straight in my DX7?

I was wondering if I wire up a plug and lead for my hyperion charger (like a swallow charger) and set it to NIMH, can I plug it directly into the radio and charger my pack, or is there some charging circuit in the TX that I will be messing with? (I know JR has different polarity to other TX's) I am using the stock charger now, but using a proper charger would be nice so I could cycle the pack and it would switch off at full charge.

Thanks.

If you are going to do that, I would take the pack out of the TX. I think it states specifically not to use another charger, or maybe I read that somewhere else. Specifically, it was designed for a certain charge current, I just plug my Tx in before I go to bed and unplug it in the morning. Well I used to, now I put a Flight Power 3s1p 1800mAh Lipo Tx pack in my DX7, and I haven't charge it since LMAO. I will sooner or later. I think ReadyHeli has them on order but not sure if they have gotten them in yet.

You can go thru charge port as you will not find connector to go onto your stock battery.
Just set it at 1 amp or less and you will be fine. Anything over 1.5 amps and you will blow the internal fuse.
You can pick them up from radio shack if need be.
I too use a Infina-ION 2000mah. and only hve to charge it once every other month, but i do it thru the transmitter with no problems.

I've charged mine though the charge port at currents up to 1.5 amps and while it works, the pack gets pretty warm. I'd concur with Rodney and stay at or below 1 amp. The pack doesn't warm up near as much at the lower charge current. Heat is the battery's enemy.

Also some Tx have a reverse current protection diode, which can interfere with peak charge detection.

You can find the connector to charge your pack...........

Also if you take a standard servo lead and remove the hood so the pins are sticking out it will also fit the battery connector.

I have seen guys blow the fuse between the charge port and the battery charging over an amp.

As the stock charger that came with my radio crapped itself, I made up a rig to charge my Tx via the plug with my Swallow charger. To be safe I charge it at a very low amperage and I haven't had a problem yet.

Just be sure to get your polarity setup right on the plug.

Cheers,

I have charged all my tx for some years now using my platinum ex charger, running it at 0,5A max and you will be totally safe, i guarantee you dont have to worry

i just bought the JR charging cable for my swallow charger to charge my DX7 and it seems the polarity is reversed compared to the JR.
teh charger beeped loudly and told me to reverse the polarity when i plugged red to red and black to black,
swapped them over and seemed to start charging

edit: actually i think the charger cable i bought is wired wrong.

outside needs to be positive.
