View Full Version : My first Raptor crash or "really hard landing"

Took the bird up today on my first solo flight and got a little higher and further away from the helicopter than I would have liked to. (well it flew away from me but you know what I mean)

Anyway I talked myself back down and bought the bird back in but in my hurry to get the Raptor back on the ground I kinda "smacked her in hard" on the landing. The tail fin even dug in a bit. Thought I got away with it...

After I calmed down and looked her over I thought I was fine. I started her back up but I noticed that the tail rotor was not spinning. I idled her back down and tapped the tail rotor and it started spinning but something did not seem right. I also noticed my 401 was flashing (not a solid light any longer)

Guesses for the newbie? I am guessing a stripped gear in the boom somewhere. :arggg:

Sounds like you stripped the tail gears. Fairly simple to fix. Just unbolt the tail box and you will see them in there.

Also check your tail servo for broken gears, you would be surprised how easy they do strip. Give her a good check over before even trying to fly it again.. Alan

Thanks all! :noteworthy

Price I pay for being a "wussy" about it... I guess. In hind sight I had gotten it down from a precarious position. You think I could have just set her down easy being I had did all the hard work already.

Darn newbies :)
