The HBK2 bare bones kit should be here tomorrow. I was originally going to use the Blade CP S75 servos. But since the Eflight servos have been through alot and I have 3 new DS285's I thought I'd put in some fresh ones. That leaves me needing a servo for the tail. I looks like there are some nice servos that are for more than I need as a beginner. Looking around I thought the HiTec HS81 appears to be a good starter servo for the tail. Its fast for the price. For gyros, I've alreay got the LogicTech 2100t. The Hitec isn't digital and that's fine as I expect to move the 2100t to a different heli later. Then downgrade to piezo HH gyro.

Comments?

I've been running the S75s in my HBK2. While they seem entirely sufficient for the HBK2, the DS285s in my T-Rex are superior servos.

As for the tail, I run an HS-56HB -- cheap and plenty fast. A big part of the HBK2 tail performance is coupled to how you position things. You might want to check out this post for how I have things oriented on my HBK2.

Thanks for the tips. I had seen that post before and wondered why the servo was angled and there were no guides on the boom. Comparing to the pics (my HBK2 hasn't arrived yet), it looks like you've got the shaft on the outside of the boom support. Stock is to have it inside. It also looks like your servo is larger than stock. Once I get my HBK2 and servo I expect that reason for your config will become quite a bit more clear.

I the DS285s in my T-Rex are superior servos.

Interestingly I heard (on another forum) that these servos were too slow for the cyclic/collective. Looking around here, it seems that was bad info. I did see a lot of complaints about the plastic gears stipping, with the recommendation to go to metal gears.
