Flying the mini titan with the stock motor (Thunder Tiger Ripper) and I have maybe 100 or so flights on it. I just started noticing a screeching noise. Could this motor be going bad so soon? Could it be something else on the heli besides the motor? Thanks for the help.

First thing to do would be to unmesh the pinion from the main gear and spin the engine up and listen. Has it ever been lubed?

not sure, was just asking, I can't see why it wouldn't need it. I can't find a copy of its manual anywhere online. How did lubing the bearing work out? You could try asking acehobby techsupport about preventive maintenance on the motor. If you do, let us know what they say, future info for when I get mine in.

Hi,

I also found a screeching noise with my MT. This occured within probably less than the first 20 flights. Some people recommended that I lube the motors bearing - this didnt help. I did find the screeching less common when I changed to using the governor mode so perhaps its only certain motor speeds where it occurs... could be a ressonance problem.

On the positive side though, I have had probably over 100 flights since that screeching first started and it has not got any worse, neither has the performance dropped so unless the noise gets unbearable it shouldnt cause any problems.

How's your gear lash?

I am experiencing a similar screeching on my Mini Titan. The stock motor is brushless so shouldn't require maintainance and the instructions do say do not lube the bearings. Anybody found a solution yet?? I am beginning to suspect the one way bearing myself?

Both mini T i had screeced a little. Like many others i just forgot about it and flew. It seems to happen when the motor is not loaded up much eg hovering

I also had the screeching noise on my stock motor after about 130 flights. Since I had a brand new JGF450TH motor waiting to be installed I swapped it out.

Apparently the stock MT motor has some issues.

"Issue" is maybe too strong of a word seeing our stock motors don't fall apart / disassemble in flight and our shafts don't break like some other well known brand motors.... (ahem!)

+1 for the fact ACE/OBL manual states "do not lube your motor" (whereas scorpion owners get told the contrary for instance)

But don't complain, I'm sure you wished to upgrade anywway! :tongue

Actually,

I didn't wish to upgrade. I felt I had to because the stock motor was getting so hot that I thought it would fail during flight. I ordered the JGF but then bought an AXI motor fan and installed that. It really helped with the heat and I was happy with it. Then the screeching started and after making sure everything but the motor was lubed, it still screeched. I then decided to put on the JGF450 and the screeching was gone.

Have now fitted new Align 430XL motor and all is quiet! ;) Also flight time seems improved over TT motor by about 60 seconds. Will now dismantle TT motor and ascertain the cause of the screeching. :happyd
