Hi All - I recently put together an HDX500 - I really like it, but am concerned the motor is getting too Hot - I do not have any way of measuring the temp, but it feels quite hot to touch after flying - I just wanted to ask what my settings should be on the ESC for this motor. The ESC is a Hobbywing Pentium 60A as in here: http://www.helidirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=4394
An the motor is an 850kv brushless as in here:
http://www.xheli.co.za/Shop/tabid/55/CategoryID/3/Category2ID/20/List/1/catpageindex/2/Level/3/ProductID/257/Default.aspx?Category3=HDX500+SE
I currently have the ESC timing set to medium, but have seen Finless mention a motor lower than 1000kv should be on high timing??
I also increased my throttle curve to get more head speed which seems to help a little, but would like to know if anyone else has had this motor/esc combination and what works OK??
Thanks
Sandy

The temperature problem on the stock motor of 3DX500 / HDX500 is well known and there is no solution for it besides changing the motor till now. I read from some people who had a loose magnet and reglued it, but I have never heard of a fatal engine damage through the heat. So either you can live with a more or less high temperature or you change to another motor, e.g. the Kora or Hyperion. If you plan to go for acrobatic flight, you should switch asap to one of these engines.

Thanks for the reply - I am just at the FF - Figure eight level - nowhere near 3D - and to be honest - quite happy to look at just rolls and loops eventually - I am wondering If I change the timing on the ESC to High - will it help a little - or will it do nothing?? Which Hyperion motor should I be looking at??
Thanks again

According to the timing I can't help you, my Jazz-80 autoconfigures the motor.
The Hyperion 3025 is used most. The version depends on the amount of cells you want to use. Just have a look in the other threads.

You could also consider a Z20-980KV although at 43mm, it is a larger diameter than the stock motor (which I think is 36-39mm).

Thanks guys - might try the timing - btw the motor I am using is according to Helidirect site - 36mm X 48mm - so the Z20 might fit - if I could find such a thing here!

I am using that exact motor and it Rocks!!!! plenty of power Yes it does get warm.
For this size heli try doing away with Throttle "V" curves and make straight 75 or 80, etc...... straight line curves for stunt modes.
I have 85% on stunt 1 and 100%on stunt 2

Thanks for all the replies - yep kantut have checked backlash and belt tension - think it is pretty good all round there - just seems to be a thing with this motor - I did feel a bud's hurricane motor the other day after he flew - very similar - so stopped worrying about it!!
